Great video!!! Nothing is better then just hearing the sounds of the machines

As a grade checker I love these guys. Running fills with 20+ of these guys at a time and them all flying past your face while you control them with your hand signals, there is nothing more exhilarating. But it can be deadly for us, guys have been run over and those huge tires explode every once in awhile sending shrapnel everywhere.

+spongaweb I was running an 824 on a job right off the 91 fwy and the 71 in Corona back in the early 80's. A couple of 37's had just unhooked and were dropping down into the fill when the rear tire on one of them exploded right next to me. It was a sidewall blow out and so a chunk of tire about the size of a large dinner plate shot out about 100 feet and smashed a same size whole right into my fuel tank. Whenever I grade checked after that I always felt a little uncomfortable when the scrapers passed by me. Being cut in half would be a fast way to go though. Thank God I made it to retirement in 2008 ! lol

Awesome vid as always, I don't know exactly what weight the 657B can carry, I expect around 45 yards at about a ton a yard, so these two machines moved almost 270 ton of earth in 13.5 minuets, without stopping, Amazing.

Cat have been there own worst enemy sometimes and scrapers are a case in point, they just made them to good back in the day.
@Jpaydirt10 жыл бұрын
Gavin84w I suppose so, but parts make more money for a manufacturer than the initial sale of the machine, and look at the parts demand and duration for these B's If the Denver warehouse didn't have my C parts Hayward did, always. now it comes from Morton which tells me when Mortons out thats it no more of that part, Some one commented once, "Its hard to justify a $30,000 dollar transmission for a machine thats only worth 30K" My reply was what do you mean that machine is worth a million dollars to me, I think this video proves me right, look at the number of repowered 57B's apparently dirt guys in CA think so too .By the way who engineered this repower? was it the people who make parts for them? You are right "they just made them to good back in the day" No electronics and good quality parts.

We were going to bring you the pit crew challenge also but, our camera man fell asleep while they were trying to get all the lug nuts off. Maybe next time folks. LMAO!

I thumbs upped this about 5 seconds into it. I hated a long haul. The rougher the better for me. Biggest I ever ran was a TS-24. Mostly a TS-14 here in the hills. Up and down, around and around. Makes for a long day. Gas it and go!

Not being from your Country, (I'm UK) can someone tell me why they nearly always repower most CATs with Cummins engines ? Is it the cost against a new CAT engine, or, because of the age of the vehicle is it the most economical, i.e. availability of parts and the cost of them. Over here you could count the number of scrapers, dump trucks and the big ex's in use on your toes and fingers combined. I only know of 3 firms that still have any in use and most of them are parked up. All our 'motorway' (freeway) projects are finished and the few roads that they are building or widening they either use Volvo A40 dump-trucks or an assortment of old beaten up 'rigid 8' tippers near the end of their life which they scrap when the job is finished.
@mclarpet8 жыл бұрын
Perhaps better parts availability and cost - certainly not better engines.
@christopherlovelock91048 жыл бұрын
In the UK if they re-engine - (rarely), it is always with CAT never Cummins. Mind you CAT have the UK pretty well covered in dealerships. A lot of our 'Heavy Haulage' 75 Tons+ tractor units are CAT powered irrespective of make of the vehicle, - (they seem to share the market with Rolls Royce in 'Big Power' units - even generators).
@wailnshred7 жыл бұрын
Maybe in California, they repower Cats, but here on the East Coast I've never seen a cat repowered with anything but a Cat.
@christopherlovelock91047 жыл бұрын
I've yet to find a CAT in the UK that has done so much work it needs re-powering. They just strip the engine down and replace the worn bits.
