As a British person the USA is clearly a soccer country, but the media treat soccer like it is minor sport and give it little media mainstream coverage, because all their sports media guys are old people who know nothing about soccer, so they don’t cover it. MLS gets higher average crowds than the NBA & NHL. It has already surpassed the NHL as the 4th sport in America and will soon pass baseball, but these sports still get more coverage. For Americans under 35 it is now the second most popular sport in that means there is going to be a huge demographic shift that will see soccer because at least the number 2 sport like what happened for the NFL in the 1980s. There is almost a fear by the networks in cahoots with the major leagues that if soccer gets mainstream coverage it will take over like what happened in Japan and Korea, so they must treat it like a minor sport. Well when the World Cup 2026 happens this denial of media oxygen for soccer will end.

Buen análisis. A esto sumemos los años de supremacía del Béisbol, futbol americano y Básquet en el cine estadounidense. Al fútbol al menos en el cine no lo tomaron en serio
@diegobert4033Ай бұрын
I think the sport still has a bit of growing to do. The reason mls gets higher avg attendance over NBA/NHL is because they play in arenas. Like you said though the media isn’t doing the sport any favors, but the WC will be the final boost to cement it as a the second most popular sport. Football (eggball) will always be king in the USA.
@henry_9Ай бұрын
I wouldn't say USA ia a soccer country, but is it definitely gaining popularity.
@natoslayer2907Ай бұрын
@diegobert4033 that is debatable because the NFL has really lost appeal over the last 10 years or so especially with younger people. I mean the whole reason Kelce and Swift are dating is to boost viewership, but that will not last long. They are trying to make a sport entirely based on violence "safe" and what's left isn't very impressive from a sporting aesthetic standpoint. Especially with how rigid and slow it is and it's convoluted rules. Most of the world doesn't have time to watch 2.5 hours of commercials for 10 minutes of live play even if they wanted to.

Then Messi destroyed them. 7 gls + 7 assists in 7 1/2 matches is on fuego 🔥 🇦🇷🐐🏆

It’s almost like KC allowed him to win.
@jomin3068Ай бұрын
Nah, KC begged him to lose the game but he didn't, so end up with 1 goal 1 assist😊
@christosnikitakis6675Ай бұрын
@@SG_DesertFoxX97 He doesn't need much space, to dribble once, then tee up and take a blast without looking. You can't tell if he's going to pass it, or shoot it from that area, because as you saw, with the 'assist', he was double marked at the top of penalty area, he'll kill you with the pass. That assist was identical to the one to Molina, vs the Netherlands. Outside the box goals, he has the most in history. He does those all the time. But that assist? Oh man! He now leads ALL of MLS with 12 gl contributions this season in 8 matches, and Suarez is right at his heel 👠, with 8 gls + 3 assists for 11 gl contributions. They lead all of MLS as a duo: M/S. Miami leads the entire MLS in goals scored with 19, and M/S have contributed in 80% of the offense.
@christosnikitakis6675Ай бұрын
Correction. He has 8 open gls and 4 assists for 12 gl contributions. Leads all of MLS and has played 8 matches. He and Luis, lead MLS as a duo. Just like old times. Leading a league in G/A. Messi + Suarez age between them in 2 months, will be 37 and 37. Leading a league full of kids, and mostly Young South American talent. MLS avg player age is lower than Liga MX, and SPL. Oldest players are Chiellini, Suarez, etc. When those guys become 39, then maybe they will sign with Arabic league. (good cash 💵).

@@jomin3068 no. Head coach went on television a week before the game braging about how his own team KC will loose against Miami but sounded happy about loosing to messi. At this point I belive that every team in the MLS is being told to take it easy and let Messi win because he brings in money.
