I have been rated TDIU P&T since March 2021. I applied for SSDI earlier this year and it has recently moved to the 3rd phase of the application process. My TDIU award letter clearly explained why the psychiatrist believes I am unable to work and also lists 14 conditions that justify the medical condition that qualifies the TDIU rating. I take all the medications that the VA prescribed as well as see a private psychiatrist who prescribes additional medications that the VA won’t prescribe. I am hopeful that the SSDI claim works out.

10 years ago I applied for SSDI, I was denied twice. I am 100% T&P at the age of 33 at the time. Now I received Monthly special compensation. I live in the state of Georgia. Also I had a lawyer at my ssdi hearings.

I applied for ss disability my employer denied injury happened at work. Herniated disc. We had a lawyer saved all paper work. Suitcase full. Contacted ss have doctors dates procedures these are necessary. And in the end restrictions. About 6 weeks check in mail. Save all paperwork As a note my lawyer offered to help me apply for social security disability but we figured we would attempt it on our own. A win. Good luck on yours. As a note I had Cigna disability insurance at work. That is another story.

Hey Brian, thank you for putting these informational videos online for us vets. I’m currently 90% VA rating. With 70% for PTSD. I also suffer lower back pain, with spondostenosis, spondolistesis, sciatica, DDD, torn ankle ligaments on both ankles with a deformed dominate hand left pinky. I haven’t even mentioned my migraines and others. Sorry about the blabbing. What would be a good concrete approach into winning SSDI for these illnesses/challenges ? Thank you once again.

Three months, that's fantastic. I got caught in a mass firing at the Norfolk SS office. My records were shipped to philly where they were lost and I had to refile. It took me 2 1/2 years. But, I got back pay.

as a Vet with 100% TDIU all I can say is hire a lawyer for SSA benefits. I have been fighting the SSA for going on 10 years this October. Brian is right they dont sync they dont like one another HOWEVER... this is where the lawyer comes in but the VA and SSA do screw around with your records to benefit one another such as for my 100% I had 3 doctor's letter stating that i could not work and why as well as a limitation worksheet. At my ALJ level i finally hired a lawyer and found out for 6 years the SSA did not have those letters because the VA had Erased all but one letter since it was a basic letter and not detailing that is was a no work letter for benefits. My lawyer did drop me and the Appeals tribunal rejected my appeal for my ALJ case and i had to go to District federal appeals and that is a costly and very difficult case and not many lawyers will represent you, i was fortunate enough to find one who takes like 4 cases a year and he found a technical flaw, the SSA did not take into account my Fibromyalgia at all, indeed Fibromyalgia is not a qualifying disability however the symptoms are based on your person symptoms as well as how they impact you in a work setting and for me it was one if not the main reason why the military discharged me. so as above said get a lawyer yes they will take your back pay money but its still worth it because at the federal level your chances only dwindle even lower of getting them and the fee for the lawyer gets more expensive.

Vets can make notes in the health care, messages, to doctor and that drops into your medical records for records I use it like a black book to keep track of all issues. Just a veteran FYI..

The VA and ssdi share medical files for my fellow veterans if you allow them makes the process easier

I had SSD when In was very young. I can't get SSDI now and have been denied 2 or 3 times. They said I need a hearing in front of a judge. I am not a criminal SSDI, and your letter is addressing me like one. I have a lawyer now to interpret for me .

I have been denied benefits from the VA twice so it has been suggested I should apply for SSDI. I am 76 and have several issues including COPD, Sleep APNEA, severe arthritis, Hypothyroidism and I lost a kidney to cancer even though I don't have the cancer gene. My mobility is not good as I have a damaged disc in my L2-3 and I am in pain 24 hours a day.

Hi,I'll tell you my story now.when I was on the USS Saratoga I was in the catwalk repairing a fuel station.there was a E2 Hawkeye they had just spotted right in front of me.when the young sailor chalked the wheel instead of backing out he ran into the propeller.we found his eyeball in a padeye on the deck.anyway all his blood and guts completely covered my whole body. He was only a month out of boot camp.i guess the good thing is it happened so fast he probably didn't feel much pain..I now have severe ptsd from that event.the VA just denied my claim I haven't had my evaluation yet.its on the 17th of this month..they also said my DD214 didn't have my awards,ribbons and me medals on it which they are. I'm being represented by a law firm in West Virginia.what do think about that and do you think I have a chance at all. Thank you very much

Im unemployable by VA and SSI sent me a letter asking if I been talking to ny dr. About work. I said no sent copy of unemployable status and they said no need for further evaluation at this time.

3 months!! That is high speed for social security

I am 100% T&P and I receive Social Security Disability for myself and my children. I have been receiving both since I was 33 although it took 2 years for Social Security because it's much harder to recieve and be approved the VA Disability. Ultimately I had to go in front of a Judge to plead my case, I also had a lawyer. It can take a very long time, in my case 2 years and also 2 years of not working.

More info: I cannot speak for other states, but I live in North Carolina and I just got a letter from social security yesterday, telling me this. --I am 100% P&T with the VA (70 + TDIU). My healthcare with the VA is more than sufficient. At 100% you even get dental. So, after my social security disability had been with me for a year, I was offered medicare at, like he said, $148 per month. I had no need for medicare. Sure, it would have been nice to expand my access to civilian doctors, but with my existing VA coverage, it wasn't worth spending money on medicare. So, I turned down medicare. Yesterday came the letter I opened up here talking about. The state of North Carolina pretty much insists that I have medicare to the point where, they are going to pay for it. So, I turned down medicare at a premium, and as a result I got medicare paid for by the state. That could be because I am 100% with the VA. OR, it could be because VA benefits are non taxable, making my official income only what I receive from social security. I have no idea which thing triggered this. But in the state of North Carolina, if your situation is exactly the same as mine...the state is going to pay your medicare premium and give it to you anyway, after you turn down the offer to buy it at $148 per month.

Hawai'i does not like to give out SSDI...I am 100% P&T ...they denied my claim. I'm going to file in November for SSI, as I'm turning 62 soon.

Since the VA is looking at more alternative medicine I wish they would add herbal supplements as treatment for medical problems. They do prescribe some nutritionals. I hate mainstream pharmaceuticals. They do not agree with me.

Hate to say this but, the Social Security system as it is has given me the royal shaft. I'm a veteran who was medically discharged in 1999 after suffering a pulmonary embolism that nearly killed me and ended my military career. I was rated 70% disabled by the VA. I've been in and out of the hospital ever since for one issue or another. The last time I was able to work was in 2004. I never applied for SSD or SSI at the time as my wife was working and her income was more than enough to pay our expenses. Five years ago, She suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm which forced her to also retire from her profession.. Shortly afterwards, I was diagnosed with renal failure and put on dialysis. The VA then increased my disability rating to 100%. Since I haven't been able to work since 2004, I do not qualify under Social Security's rule of having "worked 5 of the last 10 years." My wife was denied SSD as well. Both of us spent years paying into Social Security. Now, when we need it, these little bureaucratic rules now prevent us from the help that we need, when we need it. We're both 60. Makes me wonder if we'll even be alive long enough to even be able to apply for Social Security benefits in 8 years.

I lost all but $67 a month social security.....made $355,000.00 one year and $4 million next.....IRMAA took it all away from me...folks, never make more than $99,000.00 annually.......they will get you too

I think cut the va budget and combine into social security disability so no one jealousy and just like everybody else but extra benefit for veteran injured service connected disability and authorized $1/ iteml in all military cafeteria or commisary í way better also they should allot atleast 5% of militsry housing for veteran so they dont sleep on street in the rain like ww1 in rat filled trench

veteran benefits help because they have good medical evidence. but bad because their medical evidence might not align because veterans always say they are good all the time. they try to avoid talking about their problems.
