I am a social worker and wanted to share some tips to help others. As a student and newly qualified social worker, I did not know what to expect with social work interviews so I hope this helps others in this position.

I'm a mature student on my first placement and your videos are helping me to carry on in this journey as I feel a bit inadequate at times surrounded by students and professionals much younger than me that are already in roles where they are above me in terms of experience and knowledge. I come from a support work background which is very much hands on and I sometimes doubt myself and ask ,is it really what I want to do?

Hi thanks for your message and glad the videos are helping. I think it's one of those things where a lot of people feel inadequate for different reasons at times in social work but I do genuinely think everyone has something unique to bring. It's so good if you already have that practical experience as well. I feel like a lot of people talk about imposter syndrome and that can be relevant. Good luck on your social work journey 😊

I had my first interview a few months ago (I got the job) and I would say, for me, the most important thing is to be genuine. I stumbled on a couple of the scenario questions but I was honest about my strengths and weaknesses which they seemed to appreciate. I've got a friend who is really struggling to get a job because she'll put any old rubbish in her application to try and impress them whether it's true or not and it looks fake.

Hey I think that's really good advice. Integrity is a key thing that's needed! I think I need to get that across in these videos so will do an update soon to include it - I appreciate your comment 🙂
