Is communism demonized in Africa like it is in other parts of the world? CGTN sat down with socialist leaders from Africa, Fred M'membe, president of the Zambia Socialist Party, and Kyeretwie Opoku, convener of the Socialist Movement in Ghana, to discuss why they see China's method of development as an inspiration. "I think you will also find that for most people in Africa, the values that people hold dear are actually collective values; they are values of community, they are values of working together, of sharing, of solidarity. They just do not express it ideologically in the terms communism and socialism," said Opoku.

I watched these two in Wave Media as well. Now I want them to have their own series of shows or broadcasts. I don't always agree with them, but they are making interesting points, they provide a different point of view (African) and in general they inspire people. Regardless of the agreements or disagreements. And as I keep saying, Africa is rich not only in resources but also culturally and politically. Kudos comrades.

The words Communism & Socialism are demonised by the West as bad. Communism means a social organisation where all the properties are owned by the community. Communism is based on the goal of a CLASSLESS Society where everyone share the benefit of labour & the state controls all property & wealth. Go back a few centuries, this is what most communities do. The men may go out hunting & whatever they brought back is shared by the community. Similarly, if they do farming, whatever was harvested was shared by the community. Socialism is quite similar to communism. Socialism is a theory of Social Organisation which advocates the means production, distribution, and exchange are owned and regulated by the community. There is no Private ownership. China is a Socialist & Communist country based on these principles. China is successful because the state regulates the country with zero tolerance for corruption. Persons in high positions must work for the country not for himself or herself. China adopts a Meritocracy system where people are promoted based on their ability, education, achievements etc, not based on popularity. The CPC hold a Congressional meeting every 5 years, to discuss what was achieved in the past 5 years & set goals for the next 5 years. This is a great management cycle where the country reviews what was achieved & set goals to be achieved in the next 5 years. In fact right now is China’s 20th Congressional meeting. President Deng Xioaping went to Singapore & many other countries to learn about Capitalism. Thereafter he opened up China & embraced capitalism to develop China. He encouraged State & Private enterprises to make money- its ok to get rich. The enterprises are managed & controlled. It’s ok to get rich but the money made must be shared. The CPC knows that GREED & making money could lead to corruption & must be controlled. It’s a balancing act. That’s how China in a short period of 50 to 60 years was able to lift more than 800 million Chinese citizens out of poverty. This effort is continuing & we will see more people being lifted out of poverty. President Xi Jingpin visits very remote locations of China to see what life is like for the people of the remote communities. Then he discusses with community leader to plan & lift people out of poverty. He also sends his delegates to do this. I suggest the African leaders visit China to learn more about how China developed its economy & lift people out of poverty. Nothing wrong being a Communistic or Socialistic society. China is a good example. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺

China embraces the idea of socialism for a long time, and the idea of socialism is rooted in Chinese culture. This is a nation who invented the exam based official selecting system, a nation proceeding into a civilian society hundreds of years before the west implement this idea. Each country could find its own path to modernization

I much appreciate this interview. Very well-spoken guests. I 'd like to point out that China does not really define itself as 'Communist' anymore but rather talks of practising whole process democracy. It seems to me that China's social democracy is a quite a bit more advanced form of democratic and effective government than that of the US, which has now disintegrated into democracy for the 1%, or perhaps fascism. The US government is not fulfilling its social contract to provide universal cheap education, health care and personal safety, as well as eliminate poverty, homelessness and so on. The average life expectancy in the US is now 76 years and quality of life is marginal for many people. As an outsider, I look at the government of China with great admiration and respect. It has improved the lives of individuals across all spectrums for half a century.

I was woundering for a long time how China could be a better buisness partner to Africa than the west... Then I came upon this quote by Kyeretwie Opoku who is part of this interview. "In order to have imperialism big private capital would have to dominate the state and the state works as a PR firm and an enforcer for monopoly capital interests.". I hope this helps.

Agree on (: County has its freedom to choose what the best for its nation /people's development. 🇨🇳China's leadership team did successful work let Chinese people out of poverty and become the number one economic growth in the world.🌎 And they are still trying to support others, that's so beautiful 🤍 of course, we must understand Not all people like growth together both win. Westerns like all nations under their control...” keep war stay poor “ For all things, they did for their nation and outside nothing is positive all they do is demonize China because of jealousy and hatred. Now they try to do anything Nuke all for their war crimes. People should see the truth. learn from the success of China. Work together.

The character of a people strongly affect their culture, their government. The humility the nature of Africans is different from the Asians., The destructive nature of the European defines their character, their government, the need to dominate, colonized, terrorize. It's their character. Africa must maintain their cultural values while doing business with outside governments to sustain their peaceful existence.

All values and principles are humanitarian, their the basis for all religions, and spiritual leaders, they encompass all human beings, no matter who they are, they're derived from the universal truth that basically all people are one, and as such they should live according to certain principles that make people's lives dignified, easier and free from persecution. Socialism and Communism follow those rules. But any form of governance can be corrupted and lose it's worth, like the Democracies we see today. China has taken a sensible path by stamping out corruption which has led to their success.

Who is the dog in this story and who is sleeping with who? Was the western world a dog when they decided to ship all their manufacruring hubs to rising tiger asian nations? Is this the reason why China and or other asian nations are now getting flees? Or is it the other way around? And since when does wanting to trade with other nations make someone willing to sleep with dogs? Please move aside. Peace is coming to Africa.

On the question is socialism demonised in Africa, the response is absolutely and it is a legacy of imperialism and europeanised colonial education system that perpetuates these ideas. There is an anecdote that someone was asked do you like a certain politician and the response was no because they are a socialist. The next question was what is a socialist and the person's answer was i do not know. In many traditional systems we were natural socialists so why are we hellbent on changing to something not familiar and which does not work for us. Interestingly there is also mention of the church but if you study the bible closely it aligns with socialism not capitalism. But the european adulterated version twists all that. The realisation has to be the system you choose has to work for you and be close to cultural and social norms for it to be easily taken up. The best thing to learn from China is that they did things on their own terms. Africa must follow its own path on its on terms As Nkrumah said, "we face neither east nor west but forwards" this is the way to go tempered by a practical socialism tailored for Africa & Africans !

USSR: Literacy rate increased from 21% to 99%, a feudal farming nation industrialized faster than any other in human history and was the first nation to send a human into space just a few decades later, ended famine in the Russian Empire and early days of the USSR, became the second strongest economy in the world, etc. Cuba: Despite a lifetime of a brutal embargo imposed by the United States, Cuba has the highest literacy rate in Latin America, better healthcare than the United States, a longer life expectancy than the United States, and has survived almost a century of sanctions, embargoes, military threats, and assassination attempts. Vietnam: Ended mass hunger and poverty that plagued colonial Indochina and capitalist South Vietnam. In recent years Vietnam has won wars against the USA, South Vietnam, Cambodia, and China. Today Vietnam has the fastest growing economy in Southeast Asia GDR: Despite starting out with little to no infrastructure, being much more effected by WW2, and about 1/3 the size of West Germany, East Germany experienced faster economic growth than the West and rebuilt the country remarkably fast. DPRK: North Korea was once much wealthier and much more developed than the South before the Korean War. It was only after the North was bombed to the ground and became the most heavily sanctioned country on the planet that South Korea came out on top. Like Cuba, the DPRK continues to survive to this day. China: While China had a rough start at first, today China is one of the most powerful and influential nations on the planet. The country is very developed and eradicated issues like illiteracy and poverty. Libya: Under Gaddafi Libya was the wealthiest nation in Africa with the highest quality of life. This is despite the fact that close to 100% of Libyan land is inhospitable desert. Libya was a thriving, developed, and happy nation before illegal NATO intervention turned it into a capitalist hellhole plagued with starvation, poverty, and terrorism. I could continue but it would take all day. These are just a few examples...
