The U.S. will be holding a second edition of its Summit for Democracy this week. What's the purpose of the summit? Is democracy simply an end in itself or a means to something more substantial? Why is the U.S. promotion of democracy viewed with suspicion? And while it regularly examines the human rights record of every country around the world, why doesn't the U.S. examine itself and its own human rights record both domestically and internationally?
The guest in this edition of Dialogue is Dr. Fred M'membe, president of the Socialist Party of Zambia.

@Robert Platte accept he didn't. There are way more white people incarcerated in US prisons. However as percentage of population there is a larger percentage of black/African American in prison as compared to other racial groups. Point being I don't love the US but I don't trust China either. Africa and African need Solidarity of Dispersed Africans SODA across the globe. Africa should care for African and it's babies no other

@The New Nazis yes it too is a controlled narrative. Don’t fool yourself and think US/Western media aren’t. Laughable when Americans or Europeans think their media is independent and non propaganda. All media’s are in bed with government, industry, business, and for profit interest. I can tell you one thing I’ve traveled through China twice alone and found more freedoms and personal safety than I ever felt in my life in the US. I never had to fear or worry about cops or criminals or a-holes or just angry people with attitudes like I do in the US PS: funny how you unknowingly supported my comment that this man will never be heard on US media by thinking if compare to China it somehow justifies US censorship. BTW Chinese tv is pretty good and quite objective about information (been there seen it, stayed in lots of hotel rooms). Have you? PS: btw your name says it all about you

The U$ doesn't have a democracy because the presidеnt of the U$ is not elected by the people but аppointed for the job by an unelected group of bureaucrats selected by their respective states called 'electoral college'. The Сhinese people actually have more direct electoral power than the U$ citizens since they at least elect the officials at the grassroots level. The U$ is a plutocracy where the gov works for the corps, while in Сhina the gov works for the people. Just don't tell these facts to the Americans since it will make them very angry. They have that ability to immediately and completely rule out facts which are not to their liking.

This is what the US version of democracy has brought to the US: chronic domestic problems, including a national debt of over $31 trillion, economic inequality, inflation, healthcare, education, $1.7 trillion in student loans (with an average loan balance of $38,000), racial inequality, mass incarceration, infrastructure, housing affordability, homelessness, the opioid epidemic, and gun violence. All of these problems are consequences of government policies. No other developed countries have such problems. The country's political leaders are deeply divided and hostile to each other, but both parties agree that the source of their problems is other countries. Their version of democracy works so well for them that they are spending a huge amount of resources to promote it to other countries. The number of wars started by the US since WWII is 201, foreign leaders overthrown (36), killed, or subjected to attempted assassination (50), bombs dropped in other countries (30), interference in foreign elections (86), and the number of overseas military bases (800). Outpacing the combined exports of all other arms exporters, the US is the world's biggest arms exporter. To make the world safe for democracy, the US has caused the deaths of tens of millions of people in its conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria. The CIA was involved in covert operations that resulted in mass killings of communists in over 22 countries. More than 500,000 innocent Indonesian civilians disappeared in 1965-1966. In the last forty-four years, the Chinese military has not been involved in any war or used its weapons to kill a single person outside its territory. Despite having a per capita GDP that is one-sixth that of the US, China is enthusiastically expending an enormous amount of its resources to assist in the development of other countries.

Before we define democracy we must define what is the purpose of government! In the US the government is basically sidelined by individualism that is free to grow without guidance or control. China looks at government as responsible to create the framework for the education, health, and welfare of all residents and help the people to become wiser, healthier and have the basic necessities of life! The US therefore pushes electoral democracy while China judges itself on the basis of success or failure to eliminate poverty, and provide shelter, education, better health and wealth!

If you want an authoritarian state, just come out and say it, don't pretty it up by "defining" democracy.
@NuestraPatriaGrande
@NuestraPatriaGrande Жыл бұрын
@@paulkern7229 - All states can be and are authoritarian, whether they are states couched under the narrative of democracy, monarchy, or dictatorship. What matters in governance is whether the government satisfies the needs of the people for good education, excellent health systems, and a good living standard. Beyond this major principle, the direct election of heads of state in a transparent, public-sponsored process, as well as a parliamentary system for laws and an independent judiciary, are basic elements that I would ideally shoot for. This basically defines what I would want; a SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC MERITOCRACY. No country in our world has this. But China comes close in meeting the basic principles of governance.
