in high school in the 80's I once wrote "The sin of Sodom is the sign of evil" on a desk and I overheard my English teacher saying that the "administration" was looking for who wrote that!

You want to have some fun like that, write messages on dollar bills. Everyone will reflexively read them, and no one will say anything to you, and no one will destroy the dollar bill, no matter the denomination. It is however technically a crime, so be cautious where you spend such bills. I used to put little speech bubbles by the president's faces saying obscene things.

@Scourge_Of_Samhain It's iconic because a fanart of the cover was one of the showcase pieces in the "Helvete" music shop in Norway where people who influenced the norwegian black metal scene gathered. Pretty sure there is a video about exploring the basement of said building and the cover art is right past the door.

My youth pastor would always communicate with my old youth group via group-text. I cannot explain how annoying and persistent of a person he was. It wasn't even Bible study or anything just like "Hey come over to my house for the Super Bowl!" "Hey let's go hiking gang!" "What's your favorite ice cream!!??!!!!" So, one night in a group-text he asked us what music everyone liked because he wanted to take us to a concert. We were all in high school so just imagine all the "artists" that were named (circa 2012). I simply typed "Sodom" and sent the group a link to this wonderful piece of art. I haven't received group messages in 6 years.

Well, you know...not all Christians are as sheltered or clueless as your old youth group. I used to publish an underground heavy metal fanzine, but I sang in a black metal band. So I've been around the abyss a few times, and have the sulfur burns to prove it, lol. I still like all types of metal and have plenty of friends who are the same. And we read the Bible and follow Christ. Maybe this music scares people who don't understand it, but there are alot of us who do.

@@SkeetSystem you can draw a line from venom -> sodom/bathory/hellhammer/celtic frost -> mayhem/morbid -> second wave black metal as we know it today. the reason it's like motorhead/venom with raspy reverbed vocals is because thats what it IS essentially, but that sound had a major influenc eon the groundwork of modern black metal. listen to this and darkthrone's blaze in the northern sky, and you can hear how even as second wave black metal was shaping up, bands like bathory and sodom's influence could be felt clear as day

I was in my second year of High School when this came out in the Spring of "1984" . Up to this point this was the heaviest and fastest Ep! That came out. From Listening to Metallica hearing Kill Em' All and Slayer's Haunting the Chapel to this. They were the King's of speed to me this year. I must of herd this on Casette a Couple of Hundred Times before it Snapped in my old Tape Deck. I had bought this on casette about a week after my friend put the Record on for me just Blew me Away. The most Evil too Destructions Sentence of Death is great in it own right I give the Edge on this. Just because I loved Witchhunter Destroying of the drums and Angel Rippers Vocals. And Grave Violater just shredding his Guitar. There is to me the big 3 in Germany and to me Sodom will always be the Kings of Germany. Cheers Sodom and R.I.P. Witch Hunter. May you keep playing for Eternity. I had only one time I seen them at B.B. Kings in N.Y. in "2003". They never were able to get to the states at least the East Coast until then. Seen Kreator 3 times from "1987" to "2010" and Destruction once in "1989" too. Grateful to the German Thrash/Death Metal Scene. I love American Death Metal but These 3 bands brought another sound I can't explain but more Attitude.

+Shadanza Bonanza Yeah, supposedly slam metal is the "heaviest" stuff out there. Slam sounds repetitive and weak compared to Cannibal Corpse, Imaled Nazarene, Disgorge, etc. I think after brutal death metal, things went downhill into nu-metal and slam. However, SOAD and Disturbed two alright nu-metal bands.
@7dayspking

+Shadanza Bonanza You're not understanding his point. He's suggesting Thrash, Death and Black metal RUINED metal...because it began a division between the 'old' and the 'new'.....the 'extreme' and the more standard. He's also suggesting this movement started a lot of 'negative' trends. I myself LOVE this type of music but to each their own. At least he's not supporting Pantera =)

I discovered this band when I was 14. It changed my views on metal. Sodom is one of the best metal bands that ever existed. They influenced so many German thrash metal bands, expanding to other countries as well, and made it big, all while keeping it fairly true the entire career. I really will be devastated when this band is no more, but it will be eternally remembered. I remembered hearing bands growing up with my father such as Iron Maiden, Motorhead, AC/DC, and bands that you would consider less-than-extreme. When I heard Sodom I felt chills down my spine, and as if metal, for me, had changed forever. From then on, it was all about the most extreme, fastest, craziest metal I could find and here I am today, 20 years old, still haven't seen them live, Knarrenheinz tattooed on my bicep, but yet, I consider myself to be one of their most die-hard fans. I can only dream to travel someday to see them in the flesh. Lang leben Sodom!
