I watched a lot of DNA tests videos. But I’m always shocked how Americans predictably would always say , Iberian, Balkans what’s that? Wow, what do they teach in American geography? Please don’t be offended. Great video

Yes, but only politically ... genetically there is only one ethnic group and therefore only one people, the Hispanic or Iberian people ... There is no Portuguese ethnic group, the Portuguese Galician son crossing the Duero River, migrated to Muslim lands where many battles, were gaining ground and eventually created a kingdom of Portugal populated with descendants of Galicians, Asturians, Leonese, Castilians, etc. . Therefore, from the point of view of genetic, historical, cultural and geographical views, the Portuguese are, and always, HISPANOS or, what is the same, Spanish ...
@Ogeroigres

Quecomadrid Garcia Garcia, Iberian means Spanish or Portuguese, period. We are talking about nationalities here. The Portuguese are Iberians the same way Spaniards are Iberians. The word "Spanish" in English does not refer to the whole Iberian Peninsula, it only refers to your country.

@Ogeroigres
@Ogeroigres 6 жыл бұрын

Sam Paterson Greerings. I would not take MyHeritage’s results seriously or any of those autosomal tests as “factual”. They just provide “estimates” and some companies are worse than other including MyHeritage. I’m approximately 1/8 Sicilian and MyHeritage claims I have no ancestry of that region. When I uploaded my DNA results to DNALand.com it showed “West/East Mediterranean Islander” which includes Maltese, Sicilian, which makes sense. Chromosome painting shows “Mediterranean, North African, West Asia and Atlantic” markers that make up my Sicilian ancestry when I see how I match to the few Sicilian cousin matches I have found to date. As one genetic genealogist has argued, all these vendors provide unreliable results and you have to pay close attention to your close genetic cousin matches and learn where their ancestors are from to verify where yours are from. Also, chromosome painting is also reliable.

According to My Heritage's definition, "Central American" is a mixed or mestizo category which includes European, Native American and African. It goes from Mexico all the way down to S. America. So it is a mixed group. A part of the Euro, Native and African ancestry goes into this group. Anything extra is classified as such. Just read My Heritage own definition. I know this creates a lot of confusion and people think it either refers to Central Americans or indigenous people of Central America etc. My Heritage simply uses a category that is absent in most other DNA tests.

Celts, Roman, Greek, Berbers, Arabs, Normans, Byzantine, Spanish, French, sephardic jews, Balkans, Germans and several eurasian barbaric tribes that came after the collapse of roman empire... and i listed only the most relevant ones... That's why in Calabria and Campania you can see a lot of blonde people with blue eyes (norman dna) as well as dark skinned people with dark eyes and dark hairs (arab dna). Totally expectable. Using my raw DNA and uploading it to different websites (with what they can, I mean there's just a few websites and nothing is free) however stated that I had less english dna and more northwestern Europe, seems like we can't trust anyone.

Southern Italy was the "Great Greece" (Magna Graecia: Kroton, Locri Epizefiri, Kaulon, Skylletion, etc), then it was under the Roman Empire (remember the Roman conquest of north Africa after the defeat of Carthage), Arab Empire and Norman Empire. So it's a classic DNA result for southern Italians.

It is surely possible. Many Sicilian persons have blue eyes and blonde hair; mostly because of their Norman heritage, when the Normans settled down there after the short Arab occupation (that's why the palace of Sicilian regional Assembly is called Palace of the Normans and that's why curiously Lombardo or Lombardi are Sicilian surnames and not Lombard surnames). Some of them could also have blue eyes because they inherited them from French occupations. Recently they even found ancient traces of viking shrines in Sicily.

I love this video so much. I am 34 and have spent my whole life believing I'm of Spanish descent as that is what my Grandad thought, based on historical records, my mum has a strong Mediterranean look and Grandad was always confused with locals whenever we went to Spain on holiday. I used MyHeritage and discovered we are of Italian descent with a touch of Greek! My life has been a lie too! It's so cool to know though. Learning about Italy has been the most lovely adventure. Jews who did not want to convert were expelled from Spain and arrived in North Africa and were there until 1949. Some of the Jews are called "Marranos" who forced them to convert to Christianity. And to this day there are people who are their sons. Brazil . Mexico and all of South America.

@ercan kilic Why do not you write your own history book ... and write what you think? Jews have a history of persecution since the Exodus from Egypt. The Jews have a Bible. You can choose to believe or not. That's your right. I think if you believe in yourself you will not go far. Someone can tell you truth or lies. You choose what is truth and what is false. There's a rule ... Dad does not lie to his son. A tradition that passes from father to son is true. Otherwise you will not believe anything.

@SHICOFF1 Ashkenazi Jews are descendants of the Jewish population that were living in Galilee, Samaria and Judea during the rule of the region by the Roman Empire. Emperor Hadrian changed the name of region to Syria Palaestina in 135 AD because of frequent Jewish revolts against the Romans and scattered some of the population there to the European regions ruled by the Romans and scattered other Jews to other places in the Roman Empire. Hadrian believed by taking the Jews from their homeland that he would quell the Jewish rebellions. Because a large percentage of the Jewish population sent to Europe settled in Germany and intermarried with the local population and Germans are thought to be descendants of Ashkenaz, who was a Great grandson of Noah, Grandson of Japheth and son of Gomer, the term Ashkenazi Jewish was born .

My Heritage is a unreliable site with a well known 'Nigerian bug' that gives a small part of Nigerian blood to anyone. Probably there is a problem in its archives, it may be acceptable to have 1-2% sub-Saharan blood but it's impossible that it's *always* Nigerian. There are people in Norway who are 99% Norwegian and north European and 1% Nigerian, it has become ridiculous. That said if the ancestors of Emilio come from southern Italy it's normal that he has Greek blood (southern Italy is the ancient Magna Graecia) and of other populations of the Mediterranean, because there have always been strong frequentations with those populations due to wars and trade. In northern Italy it's much rarer, for example I live in Lombardy and my DNA is half Italian and half North European and I don't even have a drop of Greek, African or Asian blood.

Sofie i’m interested to know what part of Italy your relatives are from. After doing a bit of research I found out that many Northern Italians share DNA markers with Spaniards & Portuguese so your high percentage of Iberian could actually be from your Italian side. Southern Italians share eastern mediterranean DNA related to the near east or levant (lebanon, cyprus, turkey) This might be why I received a high percentage of Italian and Greek rather than the middle east (Lebanese) percentage I was expecting. Gosh this DNA thing is so fascinating.

The reason why most Southern Italians will likely have Greek DNA (and many greeks will likely have Italian DnA) is because Greeks ruled over that part of Italy for a long period of time, and those Greeks were having a lot of back and forths with the phoenicians which was obviously the ancient Mediterranean civilization that originated mainly from Lebanon. Which if from what i'm guessing by your comment your are Lebanese, that would make so much sense why you got italian and Greek dna.

So if you are more or less 12% from one place, one of your great- grandparents were full-blood, OR you have more ancestors from one place farther up the tree which were mixed farther back. So just to clarify when Central American comes up, it means indigenous of those lands. Unless your parents look 100% indigenous (native) then you’re likely mixed with some immigrant population (Spanish) as nationalities don’t necessarily determine ethnicity. From your results, your Mexican heritage is mostly indigenous and your other parent has most of the Spanish English mix. Both of your results are very interesting! If you get a chance try AncestryDNA- I did both and AncestryDNA was definitely more detailed.

1635? If he was your lone Italian ancestor, his genes probably have long been eliminated from your gene pool during the past 400 years. In every generation 50% of the parents genes are thrown out and lost to history. Both parents combined give 46 pairs to the egg, since you only keep 23 pairs, that means 1/2 of your potential genetic history is thrown away!

Regarding the comment, "Doesn't look Mexican at all." Mexicans can be a combination of anything. Of course your typical Mexican is usually part Iberian (European) and Native American ( indigenous) since Spain was the first European country to invade Mexico. However since being Mexican only describes one's nationality someone could for example have parents that were both born in China but be Mexican if they were born in Mexico.

The reason it states "Iraqi/Irani" it's because of the north of Iraq "Kurdistan region had many wars Roman came there I think. So it's not the Arab south of Iraq that you are related to it's the north which is Kurdish region within Iraq also north west Iran is Kurdish region as well. . Our region had lots Jewish heritage as well. We still have many names of place that was Jewish before Islam.

There were also Northern Canaanites, Arameans, Northern Israelites, Jews, Assyrians, Gutians, Lullubians, Cyrtians, Karduchians, Medians, Armenians and Persians who migrated to Italy for business and education and/or were deported thereto as slaves and war prisioners as a result of the wars between the Roman Empire and the many nations of the Levant, Mesopotamia, Caucasia and Iran.

You can upload your data to other sites and will get diff. Results. Somethings to keep in mind. 1.) Some traits skip. Identical twins or triplets can take the test and have diff percentages. 2.) France, Austria, Spain owned parts of Italy. There was an invasion from Africa in parts of southern Italy. Arabs went there as well, they brought sugar cane over which changed the game up for all our good desserts 👍. Greeks settled in a lot of places, especially Napoli, has greek origins. The history of Italy is so vast and hard to keep up with, I don't claim to be an expert. 3.) These tests, for females, mostly focus on your moms mom, her mom and so on. And lastly.. how good are these tests really?? I think there are 4 main dna places to choose from. If you're rich enough to test at all of those sites.. you will get different results. So who is right and who is wrong? Might just be all a gimmick. They're making a ton of profit that is for sure haha. So google "what to do with my raw dna data" and you will have a list of sites you can upload your data for free. You will get different results, I know this for a fact. And hey, one site might say you're 10% Italian, who knows. Have your brother, dad, or Nonno test

Nice results. Letting you know that many Italians will have some North African, Middle East and some other African ancestry other than Italian. Sometimes MyHeritage will bundle the Irish inside the English. If you test with 23&Me you will see the English. The husband is from all over the Globe. Thanks for sharing.

Yeh arabs are not phoneicaians the Arabs mixed with Phoenicians . The Arabs are not an unified ethnic group, but a massive mixed identity. The only real Arabs are those from the Gulf states, where they came from. Arabs in Levant, Iraq and North Africa are mostly recognized as Arabized people, whom many of its cultures are not the same to Gulf Arabs except the language. Levant and North Africa, however, had a long contact with ancient civilization, being used to have Roman influences. Arabs came from Arabian peninsula etc gulf . before they invaded other lands and intermarried with the people. Their natural skin tone is mostly tanned olive Hair is usually wavy or curly, but not as curly as Northeast Africans. Eye brows are thicker than most Europeans. Eye lashes are longer than Europeans and the lips are thicker. Levant arabs In the other hand are much lighter than Peninsula Arabs . Due to the crucade, many Lebanese and Palestinians carry European ancestry. Their appearance resembles Southern Europeans, with nose and eyes smaller than most Middle Easterners and the lips look more like Europeans.

@@nooraqueen2716 I didn't say that arabs were phoenicians, I said that both arabs and phoenicians each at their time, with their own methods lets say... Occupied Europe, at least the Mediterranean countries. That's why Mediterraneans might have both arabs and other Mediterranean countries ancestry. Specially Iberians. Do you know what I'm meant now don't you? Have I explained myself ok? If I didn't I'll try again😅. And, as for the rest of the info, was quite interesting, thanks. Best regards from Barcelona!

@ledout9521
@ledout9521 6 жыл бұрын
you are confusing Culture Heritage with race . native Americans are all peoples of the American Continent, remember America is not a country but a Continent from Alaska all the way down to Chile in south America just one race same DNA and her DNA test says 36% from the american continent and 64% from the European Continent and yes she is Mix race or Mestizo same thing .
@JAZPETES010
@JAZPETES010 6 жыл бұрын
No I'm not. It's saying she is 36% Mestiza. Myheritage defines "Central American" as a mixed race person from Latin America, look it up. Myhertiage uses Mestizo reference samples for the "Central American ethnicity". So she is more than 64% European and less than 36% Indigenous. This guy explains it on a video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbieaaVlup2sln0.html&t=

Ctwentysevenj Look for example for Sergio Ramos and Pilar Rubio's family. He is from the south of Spain, blond (dark blond due to the age) with brown eyes. She is from Madrid, brunette with blue eyes. And their children are a mix of them (two blond with blue eyes and one with brown eyes and hair). So there's no difference between Southern and Northern Spanish people... The difference in the peninsula is from west to east. A person from Western Spain is a lot closer to a Portuguese than to a person from Catalonia or the Balearic Islands.

During the Jewish Rebellion when the Romans crushed it Jews were dispersed throughout the Roman empire particularly in Rome and southern Italy wherein they intermarried with the population and then again after the expulsion of the entire Jewish population of Spain in 1492 a tremendous amount of Spanish Jews settled in southern Italy in fact many many Mediterranean people's have some significant Jewish admixture because of the Spanish expulsion which spread Jews throughout the entire Mediterranean Basin particularly Italy and many of them intermarried. And Emilio is quite correct that southern Italy had a number of occupations and influx of different peoples such as the Arab Kingdom in Sicily and southern Italy the Norman Kingdom which you had alluded to which is of Nordic Origins as well as Spanish French North African as well as an influx of sub-Saharan African. Truly a United Nations of genetics!
