Historic video of the legendary members of soft machine... Fantastic!

I think I read in Robert Wyatt's biography that this moment specifically was very hard for him, as the other bandmembers were ignoring his input and just waiting it out.

1:20 Robert is discussing the cut in Teeth. He thinks it isn't going to work, but it turns out great! Very enlightening to see them discussing arrangements in studio. I have been really inspired by these guys. Seems a bit tense, however... They didn't last long after this. Hard work is hard on relationships...

Yet Wyatt seems reasonably happy and motivated here, despite the band pulling the rug out from beneath his lyrical/vocal contributions. To say getting booted from the band he co-founded hit him hard would be an understatement; he is on record as saying that breaking his back and adjusting to life in a wheelchair was easier to deal with than getting fired from Soft Machine.

I believe that’s George Chkiantz engineering here. Plus this is Studio 2 of Olympic; usually you see Studio 1 in other videos (such as the Stones). Fascinating stuff indeed!

This is the only Studio 2 film I've ever come across; it was such a groovy room; was psyched to see the candid control room footage. Have you ever noticed the Vashti Bunyan Olympic recording session here on YT? There's some very brief control room/console closeups mid way through: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNpkZbuqzNmUeHk.htmlsi=xTn2QmdOyWc5IQ-J
