The soft palate comprises the posterior one-third of the palate. It has a mucosal lining, which is covered with mucous secreting salivary glands.
The soft palate is composed entirely of various muscle fibers, meaning it doesn't have any bony structure. The musculature is comprised of five main structures including the musculus uvulae, the tensor veli palatini, the levator veli palatini, the palatopharyngeus muscle and the palatoglossus muscle.

What will be the resultant force on the maxilla when we chin tuck and raise (just touching not forcing) our root of tongue to the soft palate.? Will the back of maxilla pulled downwards due to constriction of palatoglossus or will it be pushed upwards?

i thought the pharyngeal plexus is formed by pharyngeal branch of glossopharyngeal nerve and pharyngeal branch of vagus nerve?

+Tram Nguyen Hi Tram, the pharyngeal plexus is formed by motor fibers of the pharyngeal branch of vagus nerve and (sometimes) the accessory nerve, and by sensory fibers from the pharyngeal branches of the glossopharyngeal nerve. On this tutorial, however, we only focused on the motor fibers.

I always thought that the floor of the nasal cavity was the hard palate and the floor of the nasopharynx was the soft palate.

help! my to palate is deteriorating and it's causing me to gag I'm afraid it's gonna strangle me be fore it's over. I have went to 3differant doctors and they say it's all in my head send me to mental clinic because my anxiety is so bad from trying not to choke to death!there is a net that hangs off the back of my plate from the back of my throat? please help me some one please guide me to the right doctor that can help me before it's to late. I can barely hang on. it's slowly gonna choke me to death. help

Dear Julie, I'm sorry to hear about your sufferings. Anatomically, there is no "net" hanging between the back of the palate and the back of the throat. Unfortunately, we from Kenhub cannot give you any medical advice. The best doctor in your situation is an otorhinolaryngologist or ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctor. However, if you have already been thoroughly examined with no findings, you should consider consulting a psychiatrist. Sometimes the mind and emotional/stressful situations can play tricks on you. Hope you are recovering soon!
