9 years ago today my roommate was feeling stressed out and I had her sit down in front of me as I sat on the couch, in front of the TV, grabbed a hairbrush and hair clip and put this (new) video on. Today, that roommate, now married and lives across the country, texted asking me for “the hair brushing ASMR video” because she wanted to ask her wife to do the same thing during a stressful night. I knew exactly which video it was, and now I get to enjoy the peaceful memories too. Thank you, as always, Maria.

It's very risky of course because such a kind of business doesn't exist, that means the waters are untested. But if it clicks that means I have hit upon a goldmine. Lush has a full sensory experience at their spas in Philadelphia and NYC- only, the tingles you feel aren't with the full intention of ASMR. But my suspicion is that someone over there gets the idea.

Just wanted to comment, this was the first ASMR video I ever watched. Wayyyy back when it was first uploaded. I was in the hospital and had cancer, I couldn’t sleep thinking about how fast my life had changed and this put me to sleep. Only this. I am so grateful ❤️

Reading this made me get goosebumps. I hope you are doing so well 🖤 It’s not the same but my son was born the day he turned 23 weeks gestation and he spent almost 6 months in the NICU. My life was turned around and I had to split myself in to for my daughter at home and my son in the hospital. Maria was detrimental to my sleep during that time ❤

This video helps my autistic 5 year old daughter to relax at night and go to sleep it has worked for me so i thought i would try it on my daughtet and it worked a treat between the brushing/playing of the hair and your voice being very slow soft and calming she manages to drift off into a relaxing sleep if you could do another video like this 1 it would be greatly recieved thanks

Even though it's SUPER CHEESY I just have to share my story of and learning how to french braid from watching this video! French braids have always seemed so daunting and elegant to me - some mysterious and beautiful trick that other women seemed to know but I - clumsy tomboy that I am - would always be incapable of. Recently I've been growing my hair out as an attempt to 'be more of a woman'. After watching this vid yesterday I felt motivated to try the technique exactly as Maria does. Result: Just left the bathroom feeling very proud of myself: ready for bed with a nice (not perfect) french braid. It seems silly, but I live on a farm with my boyfriend and our boss, so I don't have any female friends out here, and french braiding my hair accompanied by the thought of Maria's lovely hands and calming, instructive whisper gave me a nice old feeling - something extraordinarily feminine and peaceful. It reminded me of being in primary school, when the girls would play with each other's hair or draw pictures on each others' backs while the teacher told a story. It's a strange world, that we connect in this way. But these are real connections and I wanted to share mine. Thanks Maria.

this is how i first discovered some form of ASMR. Girl in class was running her fingers and nails through another girls hair and it was really quiet in the classroom. The girl getting her hair rubbed seemed to enjoy it and i got those "asmr feels" in my head and neck. I thought at the time i was some how adopting the feelings of the girl getting her hair rubbed because i was somehow putting myself in her place. That was the first time i felt that.

To all the ladies who LOVE getting your hair played with....if you have a DryBar in your area.....RUN, DO NOT WALK to get your hair done! They don't do any cutting. It's strictly shampoo, blow dry and style, and for an extra $10 a scalp massage during shampoo!! I love it so much, I bought a plan to get two per month for $75 (it's $40 normally with extra $10 for scalp massage). It's the closest thing I've found to getting this kind of treatment for us ASMR folks. AWE-SOME.

Women have been brushing and caressing other women's hair for decades. Anyone who is offended by this video should probably stay off of the internet alltogether. Maria puts a lot of time and effort into her videos and they are done with the upmost professionalism and class. She also has things going on in her personal life and does this for your listening pleasure so you could be a bit more appreciative. If you don't like it, don't watch it. To the person who said "temples" sounded like "nipples" to her and she was offended, I suggest investing in the highest volume hearing aid because I heard no such thing. I don't usually rant about the idiotic comments on here but that's just ridiculous.

I think it just shows extreme immaturity on their part that they're going to VOLUNTARILY watch a video and then act like 6 year olds. There is a difference between intimacy and porn; love and sex; warm and dirty. Obviously, the relationship you had with your friends was a healthy, close little girl friendship - completely normal. But the irony comes in when these people want to post pictures of themselves in dental floss on the beach on X Social Media site. Go figure.

I would say it's not even just women. It's everyone. Grooming each other is a animal trait. We've been doing it so long it's and inherent part of our nature. I noticed it when I first taught in Spain. All the kids would sit in a line and do each other's hair or massage each other. Some cultures have sexualised touch so much and we miss out on an important natural bonding experience. It's ridiculous.

These were the best tingles I've had in a long time! Hair play was my very first childhood trigger. My best friend Bethany used to sit behind me in sunday school and play with my hair, scratch my scalp, rub my head, braid and unbraid my hair, run her fingers through it. I didn't know what was happening, but I knew I liked the way it felt! Then we would switch and I would do the same for her. I still love hair play as an adult and it's one of the reasons I grew my hair out loooong!

Is it just me or are all of my favorite videos by Maria from 2013? I've been a subscriber since the beginning of 2014 & I think I've watched every video she's made. There's just something about the ones she made in 2013 they're the most tingle inducing for me idk why.

I swear I think ASMR starts in the womb. And as babies we are so close to our mothers, hearing the heart beat, feeling her warmth, her gentle touch and whispers. Even though my mother didn't do any of these things to my recollection, it feels as though it is a natural, innate feeling to hear and feel this

I am a nurse and when have had an evening shift i'm having trouble sleeping. I always watch your video's to help me fall asleep. Your voice is so soothing. Sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night with my headphones still on :) Thanx for your videos!

There is I believe! I saw it on Facebook, they call themselves "professional cuddlers" and in the video I saw, they would massage the person, play with their hair, trace their fingers along the persons back and arms.. a lot of ASMRish stuff :)

I lost all my hair a few weeks back going through chemo and my Stem cell transplant. I had long red hair and loved having my hair brushed. I miss my hair so much.😫😥 I love watching the ASMR videos. They are relaxing.

I remember one night I really wanted to watch a hair play video bcuz as a kid, I LOVED getting my hair played with and watching it. So one night I thought hmm I wonder if I looked up "hair play" on KZfaq, that they'd have those videos. (I felt awkward about it too, like who looks up something so random like that) And sure enough this video popped up. My first ever ASMR video and now ASMR is all i ever watch! 🩷

I don't know if this comment has much of a place here but something I always so for my girlfriend when brushing her hair is using my hand to pull it into a ponytail and using the brush to start at the bottom of her neck and gently up through the hair back into my hand - if that makes any sense. it's a wonderful feeling

I don't know about anyone else but my actual, physical ASMR reaction happens when Maria's voice "cracks" to a whisper (0:14 , 1:24) , for lack of a better description. The sensation is similar to being lightheaded but instead of my head, that sort of light feeling happens just below and behind my sternum. Not my heart, but more in the center, lower portion of my chest. Similar sensation occurs when traveling at highway speed and there is a slight dip in the road surface. Not a bump but a depression, like the ground dropping out from under the car for just half a second; one might say or think "whooop!" as it happens. The "crack" to a whisper occurs in a few other Gentle Whispering vids...not the whispering but going from soft-spoken and breaking into a whisper on the last syllable or couple of words. Tingles.

My hair is exactly like this. It's so heavy that I can't wear it much longer than she has hers in the video. It literally pulls on my scalp all day and I have headaches at night bc of it.

A bit of a long comment but it makes sense later: One of the best things I've ever experienced in terms of relaxation was when one of my closest friends gave me a shoulder massage in the middle of my school hallway during exams. I am usually so sensitive to massages, to the point where they are painful, but it was so nice and full of love. I was so stressed and my shoulders hurt but then once my friend massaged my shoulders I felt so much better. Anyways, this video reminded me of that moment, and I immediately felt so relaxed. Amazing video, thank you for making it! 💜
