The absolute saddest thing is John Madden's vision for his series was a football game that wasn't just a video game. He wanted a learning tool that taught people football concepts and fundamentals. A video game that taught you how to actually play this game like in real life. Madden has become so far from this that I would say it's the exact opposite. For shame EA, for shame.

It feels like the 2k creators actually had fun and wanted to make an expansive gaming experience when making their football game

My son couldn’t believe me when I told him you could actually put your own sounds into stadiums. I think that was 2k.

The worst part of all of this is that EA has vast, endless resources to fix these problems, but simply choose not to do anything. That's the part that bothers me the most. It's not that they can't fix these issues - they just won't.

I’ve been saying this for years. EA sells the same game every year. They refresh some of the textures and colors to give it a “new” look, then market it as a “brand new” game. EA has ruined sports gaming. Look at what happened when EA had sustained competition (NBA 2K) they ended up discontinuing NBA Live because they had to ACTUALLY make improvements to the game or they would fall behind.

The fact we got excited about mouthguards is sad.

You’ll probably never see this comment SoftDrink, but you are a hero in my mind. We as sports gamers need to take a stand, with you at the front, to convince EA to change Madden from the ground upwards. But sadly, the only way I see change, is for everybody to stop buying Madden. It’s easily achievable, and the day is coming as Madden keeps getting worse and worse. STOP BUYING THIS GAME PEOPLE. IT. IS. A. SCAM.

I used to get Madden every year for my birthday in August and would be absolutely stoked. I think I asked around 2009-10 for my family to stop, and I’ve barely played the games since. Holy heck, I didn’t realize how bad it’s become. I still have my NFL 2K5 copy and I’ve adored that game.

I agree with you 100% I played most of the games you mentioned and all the football and NCAA games from the NES to the PS4. I just cant do it anymore. I would instead relate it more to the Sunken Costs Fallacy, which is the idea that when you’ve already spent so much money/effort/time on something, you force yourself to continue just to make it worth it. This video and your prior one are spot on and why I stopped buying these, I THANK you. Thanks for making these videos. I competed in Madden tournaments from 03-07 and sporadically after that. I stopped completely in 09. These videos are spot on. MUT has destroyed the game. It makes me so sad. Madden was such a huge part of my life. I met so many people traveling over the years and it just really pisses me off that EA has destroyed the game. Great work on part 1 and part 2. I knew about some of the features that have been lost, like play creation and custom teams, but I didn't realize exactly how many features were lost over the years that I would personally love to have in a football game. Not to mention the features in other football games that madden never incorporated. There's still room for a truly great football game, but I don't think EA will ever make it with their monopoly on the sport in video games. I recently got a huge hit of nostalgia & decided to pick up Madden 22 after about a decade since buying my last madden game. I really enjoy the arcade style play with the x-factors and big plays, but that's probably all after about 50 hours of playing. What really got me excited for the game (and ultimately disappointed me the most) was Face of the Franchise (FF). I haven't seen RP that bad since high school English class when my classmates had to read roles out loud for Romeo and Juliet. Cut scenes where the animation doesn't match the intensity of the voice, animated characters silently mumbling to themselves before and after delivering their line, watching the back of the head of the person delivering the line. Scenes where half the conversation is voiced, and the other half gets a couple words, then plain text. Scenes where if you want to skip to the next line of dialogue you find yourself at the end of the conversation or making a choice with the context provided being what's on screen. I could go on. This mode feels like it was literally an afterthought. They had the opportunity to provide an amazing experience, but instead I'm stuck playing a game with rp that removes you from any immersion, is unimpressive, and is ultimately a HUGE disappointment. My experience with this kind of mode extends to the time(s) I played The Show '19 RTTS mode, and I remember having a positive experience. I don't think the rp was anything to write home about, but it wasn't that bad. I don't even care for baseball and I would almost rather play that mode over madden's FF. Hell, if there were a game out there with comparable arcade style play and better RP I might actually get it as soon as I could afford it.

I’ve had every madden since 96 on sega and man this video hit a chord man. I’m older don’t play much anymore but the game play is definitely stale glitchy and the game lacks depth. People don’t even know EA original saying wasn’t “it’s in the game” it actually use to be “ if it’s in the game, it’s in the game” they’ve been taking things out of the game for years, sometimes they’ll bring a feature back pretending it’s new when in reality it’s a lesser version of a feature they once took away. I use to be a MUT addict back when it first came out, spent thousands on packs for a good 2-3 years playing it. Took alot to stop playing it, so much that i totally stopped playing Madden altogether for about 2 years. Shit should be illegal, it almost ruined my life

It’s unbelievable what Madden has become. Madden 05 was probably the peak, IMO. I really miss the old franchise mode. I haven’t bought a single Madden game in a long time. I don’t even bother trying them out. It’s sad. I’m glad you posted this. Pretty much everything you said was on point. I hope more people start realizing this.

Madden really needs to separate Ultimate team from the base game. Ultimate team should be free and standalone from Madden. Only then the problems would be solved.

The younger players have no idea of the features they missed out on in the early 2000's havent bought madden since 2017 and I kept that on the cheap when I use to be a game fly member.

I couldn't care less about sports yet your Madden videos are still so engaging to me. I'm glad I don't play sports games because if I did I'd be super bummed over the complete lack of options out there now. What EA and NFL are doing is enraging and the EA Sports games are the epitome of everything wrong with modern triple a games.

The problem is that everyone who complains about the game still buys it every year. I stoped buying it after 18. I don't regret it.

This is a great/wonderful truthful review of Madden. I've been a loyal Madden purchaser/gift receiver since the game came out for the PS1. I'm a hardcore franchise guy. I've noticed it was a waste of money after Madden 25. It's extremely frustrating they push the same crap year in and year out. I wish NFL 2k series was still around. Without competition the game will not get any better. They've lost my business. I'm alright playing Madden 13, I believe it's the last game where you can assign defensive players to a specific player. Keep up the good work, hopefully one day EA will make the changes necessary. However, I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you for the trip down madden sucks life. I remember back in the day I had so much fun with Madden 02, and the expansion draft. I remember playing college football and porting it over to Madden. I became that guy who bought the game every year, and played it to the point of breaking the game. I slowed down after the last college game, as what was the point of having fake drafting players. 15 to 18, I bought but got rid of it. I moved on from Madden when 20 hit. Over the years, I watched a good game give away to greed, becoming a poor product. Watching the modes change, losing allot that made Franchise good, I found that EA stopped caring about the consumers. The gameplay alone is insane in moments when you play well and the the AI does something not possible to every happen. Best part that always sucks, is the idea to have a competitive AI, as I was kicking the computer by 48 points, only to see my team suck in the second half and lose by 10. I understand football, as a former player, and spent time learning the coaching to know that Madden is lacking true Football. Madden football makes the name Madden a sour mouth, while the living legend is wondering why as the greed took over football. Giving that I am writing this, I am one of those people pushing for EA to drop the game and let someone do it better. I am also one of those guys who went back to a ps2 and 3 to play the best versions of the game, both college and Madden,, while still playing Ncaa football 14 revamped mode....which is far better then Madden in so many ways. Thank you for speaking for the people who need a voice to shout out to the EA people. We must stand together. Thank you for your time.

My friend gave me his ps4 during covid so I bought Madden, I was legit stunned how bad it was, I even pulled out old games, I didn't know what ultimate team or any of that stuff really was pay to play always creeped me out but thanks for this vid. Amazing professional research work and enjoyable video. A very well earned like and sub. EA was once the best back on SEGA Genesis into early 2000s. So sad they went all in on investor interest, they were so creative and innovative.

The glitch with the drafted players faces is so frustrating, like how hard is it to just double check that they are matching? Also you can draft players who don’t even have a picture, just a blank card

Madden 21 is the first Madden I didn't buy since 1998 and so far I haven't regret it. Hopefully they really put some work into Madden 22, as I'm looking forward to finally play a "Good Old" Football Game/Simulation (like 2k5 for example) on the Next-Gen hardware. Well...probably just a dream.😒
