Historically, testing hadn’t been a priority.
In the 1960s, IBM introduced System/360, a legendary mainframe computer built specifically to be modular and compatible with any task. The cost and time it took to build were just as legendary - around 1000 employees worked on the system for 10 years, and the initial budget of $25 million was raised to $5 billion. That situation was typical for the 60s. Programs took ages to build, companies hired excessive numbers of engineers to speed up development, but the pool of qualified programmers was limited, and soon they ended up with low-quality, bug-infested software.
What about today? Testing became more than a routine task, it deserved the title of Quality Assurance, which also covers planning, monitoring, and control. And what about the fastest growing areas in QA today?

I'm a software tester and this video describes what I do pretty well. I'll add that it's really fun and playful work. Also that software development teams should have a QA expert from the very beginning to consult.

I remember doing automated testing of code when I was taking BASIC on the Pr1me Mini Computer System back in the mid 1980's. And yes, I wrote the input scripts myself, and had to check the output manually. It's much more advanced today.

small point, people started raising the alarms over the y2k problem in the early 1970s, it just didn't get the name till the 1990s. the actual y2k problem was not that the program would fail for the year 2000, but that it was known that 2 digits only gave you a 100 year window, and nobody bothered to address this technical debt for decades, meaning it then all had to be done in a rush.

Testing if used, cause most of the times a app won't scale enough to be worth testing, is very time consuming and to be fair is better if you as a developer write the tests. You can't write tests for the entire piramid (UI, SEVER and MODEL) if you don't understand the full functionality of how code works and how they interact. TDD is the way... if the time is worth doing so! Complete automation is possible if the time invested into automating it brings significant revenue back... a test script that passes doesn't mean the software is full proof... it only mean that the cases accounted for are passing.
@ttravo
@ttravo 2 жыл бұрын
So you want the users to test your product on release? That's not a good look. You don't have to understand the code to test a product (black box/functional testing). Dedicated testers (QA, SDET) reduces the risks of released software to have bugs in it. Testing is time consuming but that's why there should be at least one QA and/or SDET per team or a dedicated test team (depending on how small or large the product is). Just an opinion coming from a software engineer.
@pedronunes8766
@pedronunes8766 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware TDD includes tests... no? Just my opinion...
@ttravo
@ttravo 2 жыл бұрын
@@pedronunes8766 I was taught that tdd is creating unit test cases before creating software. Unit testing is more for testing if the code you wrote is correct where as functional testing is to test the system. I don’t think it’s possible to unit test a product end-to-end but you can with functional testing. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I dont have degree on IT . I talked to a "personal teacher" and he told me that it is better to be QA/Tester because it is a bit easier for someone who has not degree on IT . He said that he suggest it to everyone who has not degree. He said that i will learn python, sql ect ect ect .... I said him that i am police officer at Europe Union country and i want to change my job , i want to go to U.K.. I asked him if there is a way to connect my previous job and the new one in IT , in my CV. He said that everything in IT can not connect in POLICE. Do you agree with this ? That nothing can connect and that the only easy way for someone who has not degree in IT is QA/tester . Could someone be at first QA/Tester and if he want it , he will change it to be software developer later ?

To be a software developer you need to learn at least 2 years in boot camp or 4 years in University. It is hard to switch tho.

I worked 3,5 years as an industrial painter(painting walls) before getting a job in IT as a Software Tester in Belgium, being an immigrant with not the best English and French skills. I have a bachelor diploma as an art teacher though, but never worked as a teacher, just some freelance art/crafting related work. The most important thing that helped me to get the job in IT was the fact to show/prove to the interviewer that I was very interested,motivated and enthusiastic about software testing and the IT industry in general. I'm thinking to start a blog, sharing these experiences, maybe even with some tutorials etc., would it be interesting for you to read/watch such a blog?
@dorinbanar
@dorinbanar 2 жыл бұрын
And you actually can make some connections between the work as a Policeman and IT, because IT is everywhere nowadays, and the bugs in that IT stuff too. So if making a good brainstorm and with a bit of creativity, you can figure it out how to make some connections between Police Service and IT. For instance that you often notice some bugs or malfunctioning of some electronics or software that you used for you work etc. I saw a video on a channel of an Belorussian software tester, who interviewed an ex policeman, that got a job as a tester and already had some experience and was planning to move to DevOps.
