Sohyang started off as a CCM and gospel singer (still is) she had cancer and recovered but contracted hepatitis through it which gave her recurring bouts of pneumonia through the years after. Due to her health and her faith she decided never to sign to a large label. She remains an independent artist with no social media so she is something of a hidden gem. But once found you won't forget her. She has so many great performances. This one was on Immortal Songs 2, a long running Korean singing contest for popular Korean artists. Sohyang often starts off like an angel and turns into a beast. You were right, lots of power hiding behind that angelic start! Sohyang's main goal in singing is to heal and comfort. When she sings about pain and tough times, she has walked them. No one is more genuine then her. Also the arranger of this is her, with her team. But all these contest songs she is the main arranger. She is known as the Queen for a reason. She has covered some of Whitney's songs. I would suggest "I have Nothing" from the DMC festival. Blue-purple dress version. There is another one where she is wearing white but she was not well there. she also did "I Will Always Love You" in 2020 on the show Begin Again Korea. So many great songs on the show. So Hyang is a 43'year old devout Christian and gospel singer from South Korea. In her early 20's and newly married, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which left her unable to have children. We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Dan thank You !! All I can say is, that this song is always in my top 10 or 15 best SoHyang Performances! When she covers a song , she respects the message of the song but always makes changes, sometimes subtle sometime more dramatic but her, ( her and her team) , arrangements are genius ! Great as her voice is, I think she is an even better person and the way she can make you feel the song and strong feelings! She has had her struggles ! From mid 2014 to mid 2019 , just over 5 years, she had Pneumonia 8 times and through some of those bouts of that lung disease she battled thru and sang some of her performances, like You Raise Me Up and Lean on Me, both from ,Immortal Songs 2 ! Or, Everyone, a 71/2 minute full on give it all you got Gospel, that would send Satan to Church! She has sung Gospel in 66 countries and those along with Charity Event still receive preferential treatment from her Loving Soul! That’s our Sohyang for you, you have just had a normal reaction to Sohyang. You have got many more of her performances to blow you away & yr right,she can easily stand toe to toe with ‘diva’s’ of this world, Mariah,Whitney,celine & the only reason that she is not a household name all over the world is that’s her choice, she’s not interested in fame & fortune, she sings to make people happy esp when they’re experiencing hard times @ she has turned down all of the big record companies preferring to do it at her own speed etc. Not only is she technically brilliant but she can emote & tell a story through the song like no other & she manages to get through to your soul even when she’s singing in her native Korean & you have no idea what the lyrics are. She is also a very talented arranger of music & as with the song you have just seen,BOTW,she is responsible for the arrangement of all the songs she performs but she will only change the song if it ‘adds’ something to it,sh’ll never rearrange a song & make it worse, she’s far too respectful to do that. She is also a university lecturer in music, and a published author of fantasy novels. The performance you have just seen was well within her singing capabilities, it wasn’t difficult & although it was amazing there are many more that are regarded as more impressive than this. She is a gospel singer at heart but she excels in many genre’s, wait til you heat her rapping (song called ‘day day’). Finally, don’t be put off watching her performances in an other languages apart from English because I can assure you this lady has the ability to get through to your soul regardless of the language she’s singing it in. She is definitely ‘queen’ Sohyang especially when Dimash is regarded as ‘king’. She is also a cancer survivor & does still not enjoy the best of health,although she is cancer free thank god.

Peter Hollins with Tim Foust is definitely my favorite version of bridge over troubled water! The reason I started listening to vocal music consistently last year is because I subscribed to Peter Hollins. It didn’t take long after that to subscribe to Home Free and Chris Rupp.
