Soil pH is one of the most important parts of soil test results. It's an indication of the acidity or alkalinity of soil and is measured in pH units ranging from 0 - 14. It has a huge impact on nutrient availability which effects how your lawn is able to make use of those nutrients. Keeping soil pH in the optimal range grass is the faster way to greener lawn. When it's correct, your lawn will make better and more efficient use of fertilizer and other soil amendments.
In this video I cover, what soil pH is, the lawn care issues that result from it being outside of the ideal range, and how to amend the soil to move pH into the ideal range.
Apologies for the misspelling of "alkaline" at the 38 second mark.

BUT, phos, mag, calcium, iron, maganese and zinc are very high. I live in northwest Indiana with clay soil. The ground was very dry when collected my sample. Can these be fixed. I put some Milorganite down after i collected the sample. Can you suggest something that can help me. Thank you..Carolyn
@RonHenry
@RonHenry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn. I really wouldn't worry about the levels currently being high. Having the soil test results is a great way to know what to apply as well as what NOT to apply. If you want to lower levels, the easiest way is to bag your clippings and dispose of them. You're essentially removing nutrients when you do this. It'll take a while but it's a way to reduce nutrient levels in your lawn. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching the content. 🙏😎

@RonHenry
@RonHenry 2 жыл бұрын
8.5 is definitely on the higher side TinyK12. I'd still try to lower it over time. Between citric acid and sulfate products, it should come down. Will just take a while. In your case, you'll want to make use of foliar applications for your micronutrients. With a pH of 8.5, they'll be much less available directly from the soil. Something like NutriSolve is what you'll want to use: golfcourselawn.store/products/nutrisolve-with-seaxtra Hope this helps.

I think you are on clay soil so this won't apply to you but here lots of soils drain well. The fine ground and then prilled lime like Dolopril and Calpril soon wash below the turf root zone. Here we put one of them down for fast effect but include a coarse, sand like natural dolomite lime product at the same time, it breaks down slowly and physically remains in the root zone.
