Solar Powered Pond Pumping in a Natural Swimming Pond: I make a pole mount for two solar panels. I show how to wire the two 24 volt panels in parallel using a Midnight Solar Combiner Box. I also install the skimmer pump and plum the outlet to the other side of the pond where I will make a small waterfall.
Companion Video: • Building a Solar Power... (shows the rest of the PV system being built)

I think my swimming days are over. I would love a water pond like that but only about 2 feet deep. Then in the center, have an adjustable water feature to shoot up so I can watch it and it could also be used for animals to drink out of. Maybe adjustable lights for white or colors depending on the mood or season. You need to drag up some wood for the woodburner for this winter. I couldn't recall if you had a stack or not. When you lit a fire and sat there it was as if we all felt it. As I said before, my grandpa and I would sit by a small fire on old metal green chairs. We'd sit there and he'd just talk about anything and everything. When we would take walks in the woods, his motto was "never walk back empty handed". So we'd always drag some kind of wood or twigs to take back and put with the rest of the pile. I still don't get the electrics of solar and I've tried. All I know is that when I build a new house, it is going to have an electric furnace and a/c. I want enough panels and a battery so that I have a zero electric bill. My electric this past month in Ohio was $330.00. So, as you can see I don't care what it costs to build so I do not have to tie into the electric lines. Thanks for the video!
@50Acres
@50Acres 2 жыл бұрын
Well, if you only wanted it two feet deep it would be much easier to build! Ive got a little start on firewood we cut up a dead ash last spring. That will be nice to have all your electric taken care off. It's getting more and more affordable these days.

Love the channel. 1 notation i have is did you put some kind of anti spin device on the pole in the quickcrete? If you didnt if you have a few storms roll thru with the wind strong enough it may break the pole loose and itll spin in place. To late to change it now but if this scenario happens you can dig up the clay to where the crete is at and drill a hole thru the pole at a slant and then use a masonary bit into the existing crete and then hammer a piece of rebar thru the pole into the crete. I would do 1 of these on both sides for added strength. Then lastly add more quickcrete to where it covers the rebar and holes you drilled. Hopefully you dont have to deal with this but those panels may act as giant wind catches.

Thats a good idea. I don't want that happening.

Have you thought of using stainless steel muffler clamps to fasten the solar panel mounts to the pole? I worry that in a high wind that the worm clamps might break. Thank you for making this video illustrating the solar install. I love the whole idea of capturing and using energy from the sun.

That'd work great, I just used those clamps because they came with the mounts. Glad you liked the video.

i second your remark...my icon is my solar panel system with a tracker...i see that rock around in strong winds...those hose clamps will not take the stress and loosen ...at the very least since your panels dont track/move...put guide wires from the corners to the ground...also put a screw/bolt into the mounting pole you cemented in just under the clamps so they cant slide down if they do stretch/loosen

It seems to me that there are so many things you could be doing on the cabin instead of building the pond!

Yea, it was nice to take a break but I'm ready to get back to the cabin.
