I have a '97 Hot Rod 100 and love it. I have used an '82 JCM800 for years. I tried other makes in the interim like a 5150, Laney, even a Carvin, nothing came close to my trusty 800. So now, reaching the half century mark, I decided to try some others again. I found an HR100 on Reverb, talked with the seller for a while, and decided to take a leap and give it a shot. I am MORE than pleased with the tone of this thing. You can feel the quality components used, in the tone of the amp. I would not describe it as 'versatile', but I would describe it a "Harmonically Rich", and a "Tonal Playground". A good example would be the fact that you don't have to crank up the gain of the amp to get a great tone. You can get an equally great tone at low, or high gain. A lot of amps out there sound thin and lifeless unless or until you max the gain. Not with these.I still play my 800, but the Soldano always surprises me when I plug into it. A totally different animal, but a damn nice animal. I'm not sure this is helpful, as the 25 is very different than the 100 (which I was told he is no longer making). But I guess my main point is that when you plug into a Soldano, you can feel the quality as you play. It's that fun. Not to mention Mike is a super nice guy who cares about his customer's and his amps. I have communicated with him several times through email and he was always anxious to help out in any way he can.

Your comment is helpful. There is something about the voicing that I'm just not sure I'm into. It might be the speaker. These sound like V-30's in it for some reason. Maybe I would like the Friedman better.

I've got one of these. Pretty fun. Overdrive cranked WAY up, to 9-10, is really cool sounding; even at low volumes. I haven't really used the clean, though.

I no longer have this amp.. I moved to a Friedman Dirty Shirley 1x12, just a warmer, more organic amp that fits me better.

From the tone seems you have a delay on hand, etc,...? Does not seem the amp without a delay, just running the gain?
@charlesycoker
@charlesycoker 2 жыл бұрын
there is a delay in the loop that is active at some points.. some of what you are hearing is just room reverb. Maybe a reverb in the loop.. been too long.

Very nice, my next amp. I have a JCA50 that I put in good tubes and biased correctly. Just find that Soldano tone to be as close to perfect as you can get for guitar. Do you know what tubes come fitted stock?

Would you say that speaker combination really fits that amp? Thinking about getting the same speakers

well, obviously everyone's taste and ears are different. To me, it was a bright amp and the Creamback M65s tamed that a bit. I would personally not like V30s with a Soldano but there are guys that do of course..

What speakers are being used in this demo. They lack warmth. Kind of tinny.

Get a Fender amp,, they do cleans best. Then get something else for gain/high again otherwise everything is a compromise.

Is this amp worth $2200 when you can pick up a hot rod 50 watt for $1200 all over online. Just curious anyone who's owned a 25, Why the price tag?

I think it is better, people that have played both will agree. I had a HR50 back in the 90s.. I know longer own this amp and am running a Friedman Dirty Shirley 1x12 combo now

Hard to clean up the HR50 when it's cranked. If you're playing music that requires that one wonderful sound you're in luck. All my amps are single channel but am strongly considering the HR25. If ya need extra watts go for the HR50+.
