Soldier Boy is a minor antagonist of the controversial comic book series The Boys. He is the leader of the superhero group Payback and aspires to be a future member of The Seven. Soldier Boy is not as strong as Homelander, Stormfront, or any other supes. However, he is still relatively strong, similar to a super-soldier.

I get that the parody of the Avengers is going to show Vought being inept even at the beginning in WW2, but I'd poke a question about that armored battalion not having any sentries posted that would check in at regular intervals? If the show touches on this, they'll need to show the sentries being taken out in a silent way and the Waffen-SS moving fast between the check-in intervals in order to make this plot point grounded.

Ennis probably didn't even think to make this whole scenario grounded to begin with. First, Vought, a company who wants a successful launch of their new product, chose to send "Avenging Squad" in without any training. Second, the whole scenario where a massive German force materialises out of thin air is really stretching it, especially since this was all under the belief that there were flying men coming from the Allied side. Even with all that, the only way they could've salvaged this whole scenario, is if it never gets included in the show. Kinda like when the Hughie accidentally killed a member of Teenage Kix as his first Supe kill, or like the majority of the Herogasm event.

@Rodolfo Ramos 1. APCBC is was not handed to everyone in a Sherman. 2. The 150mm penetration values where against flat armor, it doesn't take into account slopped armor. 3. The panthers armor was 80mm, not 100, and it was slopped, which gave it an effective thickness much greater than just 100mm

@@virgilio6349 Not the face, and as the Chieftain said, 80 mm slopped at 45 is just around 140 mm, plus it's mild rolled armor steel, so less effective than cast which is what APCBC penetrated 150 mm of. And yes, 76 mm had plenty of APCBC, after all, the whole point of the 76's existence is to breakthrough heavy armor; you're thinking of the 75 mm which was a more all-rounded gun.

@@virgilio6349 Also it's the turret that has 100 mm, not the hull. The shot bounced the slightly slopped 100 mm mantlet in this comic, no? Tiger has a 120-200 mm mantlet, that covered the whole front of the turret, but the Panther only has 100 mm on the mantlet and the front turret (and the latter is flat, making it worse than the mantlet) And let's not forget side armor, Panther's has side armor slightly better than the Panzer III and IV (that's not saying very much, honestly) and the fact that few Panthers had eletronic turrets, you had to crank it to turn the foward-heavy turret Oh, and the transmission which was originally meant for a 32 tonnes tank (what Panther was originally going to weight); it broke down consistently. The Tiger was better, but also heavier and got stuck in stupid ways (but then again so did the Panther, the M26, the ISs 1 and 2, and the Churchill)

If this was an attack and not just a scouting party like stated the supes involvement wouldn't even have mattered in the first place. They wouldn't just decide to launch an attack because they saw like 3 guys, not even wearing any uniform, flying into a general direction. It's more realistic that the attack was coming since at at least three days and the supes just happened to be there when it happened. Think about it. The Panthers were stretched extremely thin at all times during the war. To see so many at once in one location implies that they've been called in, which would've taken time.
@electricfeverx976

Going through all the comics, it seems the author hates Superheroes but chalks it up to them just being inexperienced. Stuff like this battle prove that Vought needed to train their Superheroes before showing them into hell. Even if the soldier wanted to blame the supes, he has no cause since the supes didn't break any of their gear, and it was thanks to their unsupervised reconnaissance that he was able to recognise an attack was coming, which saved his life but killed his unit.
@ivans3483

Ah, when the messaging ruins the story. I like that Mallory is bringing up that real heroes, the guys who fought like hell for the US and its values, are more often than not being forgotten and replaced by people in funny suits, changing the message to suit whatever they want. BUT... This is just ridiculous. Let's ignore that an entire SS battalion SOMEHOW got past American sentries... in the front lines... without anyone noticing... (apparently that US plane flying around also didn't see them). This isn't the Battle of the Buldge where it was a massive attack when no one expected, everyone here is clearly somewhat tense. Then, there's the whole test in the front lines... You don't do that, not like this, not even if the guy that wants it has a ton of money. I can't, as far as I can find, find anything remotely similar to this happening where a US SENATOR and some company schmucks travel to the front with some new product they want a specific batallion to test. An aide, a messenger, a freaking letter with a signature would make more sense if the message is "these guys will be under your command, give them a test or two, see how they do against the enemy". Can you imagine the fire and brimstone the FDR administration would get if they LOST A SENATOR IN GERMANY???? And the heroes... bruh. I get it, we're supposed to hate them, that they are literally just products, not people, but how mentally deranged does one have to be to approve this when they have zero training or survival instincts??? That one kid was literally just a cheerleader, for crying out loud! And what's with the combat? At that range, the Sherman's gun would've torn through the Panther, not "pinged" off like that. And the Americans losing that skirmish doesn't add up much either. Not if it's "the front". Backup wouldn't have been that far behind. Yet Mallory gets captured by some other German unit? He even has time to get the "overkill" achievement on fake Captain America. I'll give it this, though... I can *feel* the hate the author has for superheroes here...

Sending that much(or any) armor after seeing a flying man defies all logic. Every time in war or peace, when people in the military see something strange or supposedly paranormal, regardless of who it is, the official SOP is as follows: Soldier: You see that, Sgt? Sgt: No, and neither did you. Why? Because reporting strange phenomenon to a superior in the military is a one way ticket to either the nuthouse or the stockade, depending on certain factors. Oh and Eagle guy just happens to stumble into a lone plane's trajectory? That's some plot convenience right there. And I know Ennis loves pissing on Captain America, but remember this: Steve Rogers at least went through some boot camp before getting the super serum. Soldier Boy didn't, obviously.
@electricfeverx976
@electricfeverx976 2 жыл бұрын
The more likely outcome, is that the Germans were already planning an attack. The soldier said so himself, they hadn't seen any enemy troops for 3 days, and when the flying supes confirmed there wasn't any Germans, he knew exactly what that meant. His ass should be thanking them for giving him the kick he needed to realise an attack was on the way. Also yeah, the supes should not have been shit on as hard, since they weren't malicious or acting like asses, they just wanted to help and be asset to war, not just be public icons, that's what Vought wanted.
@Lasertrain
@Lasertrain 2 жыл бұрын
@@electricfeverx976 I'm sure if given time, Ennis would have written something about how Crimson Countess was poorly dressed for the weather and how having a woman there was a bad idea. Also, it would stand to reason that the flying supes, one or most, would need special equipment and repairs to their flying gear and that replacements/technicians for just one or two men was a waste. Again, there are legit arguments to be made but Ennis I think was being mainly petty about his dislike for superhero comics being more popular than his favorite war and detective ones.

@@CavalierHorseman91 I'm sorry but that's video game thinking. Especially if this is based on Joachim Peiper's push to Antwerp to fulfill hitler's plan to split the allied lines. His troops didn't have the fuel and supplies to go searching after something that is not part of the plan. And when you're in the military, you follow orders, not strange things in the sky. If they were already set to attack that area, it's moot. Distractions and misdirections can be fatal in war. Or better yet, listen to some of the stories about soldiers in Vietnam who claimed to see angels and find out how many platoons went 'looking' I even asked a relative who served in the gulf and he told me doing something like that was foolish and risky. No commander he said would send troops after something like that. And he was in the fight. He was no FOBBIT.

Literally though, people are getting mad that the Germans won the battle for some reason and accusing Garth of being a Wehraboo. Like yeah sure some of the stuff in here kind of seems a little ridiculous, but this is coming from the same people who read comics and watch movies where a big purple man uses magical stones to destroy the universe.

Not gona lie, this looks like shit. This all fells like author was just butthurt that in most comics super heroes are shown beating up his heckin based wermacht, so he made a fanfic where they are pathetic and weak. Like, what is the message here? In most comics super heroes were shown to have proper training in what they do. This all fells really unprovesional to me.

That's the point superheroes have no business in the army they have no training all those powers are useless if you don't know how too use them like if somebody said shots fired 9 o clock the superheroes would look at their bloody watch. Mallory had every right to do what he did in the end

Clearly, you've missed the point of the Boys. Superheroes here apply to the same logic as celebrities, where their identity is vastly exaggerated and glorified; because at the end of the day they suffer from the same flaws as ordinary humans. These supes were designed mostly for the sake of commercialization or propaganda, not actual combat efficiency.

Atleast Steve Roger's? Done alot better than soldier boy here? This won sucks at being as the original captain america. Or if he wants to be as half good like Roger's as captain america? The real captain america was the finest soldier in those time. Not this cheap imitation....

Impressive, Garth Ennis wrote an entire series shitting on superheroes, America, and yet it’s nowhere near as damaging to the medium or the country’s reputation as the SJWs running the industry into the ground.
