Lyrics Britons once did loyally declaim About the way we rul’d the waves Ev’ry Briton’s song was just the same When singing of our soldier braves All the world had heard it Wonder’d why we sang And some have learn’d the reason why But we’re forgetting it And we’re letting it Fade away and gradually die Fade away and gradually die So when we say that England’s master Remember who has made her so Refrain It’s the soldiers of the Queen, my lads Who’ve been, my lads, who’ve seen, my lads In the fight for England’s glory, lads When we have to show them what we mean And when we say we’ve always won And when they ask us how it’s done? We’ll proudly point to ev’ryone of England’s Soldiers of the Queen War clouds gather over ev’ry land Our flag is threaten’d East and West Nations that we’ve shaken by the hand Our bold resources try to test They thought they found us sleeping Thought us unprepar’d Because we have our party wars But Englishmen unite When they’re call’d to fight The battle for Old England’s common cause The battle for Old England’s common cause So when we say that England’s master Remember who has made her so

@Governor-General Thanks for posting this interesting bit of film. The Governor or Viceroy seems to be passing out (Birthday?) Honours in one short bit. That even today is done on behalf of the Monarch by Governors and Governors-General. Not sure Viceroys enjoyed the same status. I attended a few of these in Hong Kong under then Governor Lord Patten. Bloody FCO seemed to keep forgetting my GCMG !!
@cinimodification6 жыл бұрын
It seems you are quite familiar with Hong Kong's history. If one is not mistaken, did you not comment on a video of the Handover ceremony back on the fateful night of 30 June 1997. What you said to your wife was a truly moving statement and resonates well into the 21st Century.

Just thought I would mention that the Union Flag at the beginning is *cough* upside down
@1812AndMore9 жыл бұрын
Damir Pryce It wouldn't matter if it was upside down, right side up, or even sideways if the government didn't change the King's Colours in the first place. If they left out the St. Patrick's cross the flag wouldn't have a proper code to fly it. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/17/Union_flag_1606_%28Kings_Colors%29.svg/1000px-Union_flag_1606_%28Kings_Colors%29.svg.png

Damir Pryce I knew very well what you meant with your comment. My belief is the King's Colour should not have been changed from its original making of the St. Georges and St. Andrews crosses only.

Yes, the flag shown at the beginning is most assuredly upside down. Regardless of the comments about whose cross should, or should not have been included, or other specious arguments, there is a right-side up and wrong side. And never the twain shall meet.
