FOREST OF DEAN WALK FEATURING SPECULATION, SERRIDGE GREEN AND CRABTREE HILL
"Speculation, Serridge Green and Crabtree Hill”
Filmed 27th August 2018
Post-production completed 9th March 2019
Today’s journey takes me back to Speculation, another site of an old Forest of Dean colliery. I encounter disused railways, tramroads, brickworks, quarries, but perhaps best of all more wonderful views over the Forest of Dean. Although I’ve visited these places before, it’s been a long time, so they are not always quite as I remember…..
Filmed in the Forest of Dean in the county of Gloucestershire. Locations include Speculation, Mirystock Bridge, Serridge Green, Steam Mills Lake, Cinderford Linear Park and Crabtree Hill. This is part of the series of films shot in 2018 celebrating 25 years of “The Solitary Rambler”.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.

@@solitaryrambler You are most welcome. Your music and videos cheer me up very much - I've got my Mum into watching them too! The Forest of Dean one's are our favourites; when I told her you compose the music too she said 'what a talented man - he should be making music for the movies like John Barry.'

Hello Patrick, how are you, I hope everything is fine. Speculation is a region with very dense vegetation, very similar to the tropical vegetation we have here in Brazil. I think you would really like to walk in the forests here. I agree with you, Forest of Dean is a wonderful region.

I had a good time around that bridge a few years back Patrick - I still have the footage and photos. I went a little East along your route and then crossed the road into another part of the forest where I saw some deer and then down towards Lydney. It's a fabulous part of the forest - your walk was blessed with great conditions. Again, another enjoyable production. I trust you're well. Take care as always. Mark

Hi Mark, glad to know this is a part of the Forest you've explored yourself. You'll know how nice it is around here. Great that you saw some deer, something I've rarely seen when I've been to the Forest. I was very lucky with all my filming last as we had the best summer in years of course. As always Mark thanks for your support, great comments and for watching. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :)

Going to England Christmas flying into Dublin then to Liverpool to trace my grtgrt grandfathers journey to America. Im planning on going from Liverpool to Luddenden then to Leeds, with a possoble stop in Scarborough. I want to stay a few days in an English seaside town. I would really appreciate some advice. Im torn between Blackpool and Scarborough. I want to go to the most English one if that makes sense. Some advice would be really appreciated. And by the way another Great video Pat.

Thanks Billy. Not sure I'm really the best person to advise on seaside towns as it depends on what you're looking for. Scarborough is nice but it's also a typical "tacky" seaside town with amusements, shows, etc. Whitby is nice and has more character, less amusements. Not been to Blackpool for many years. Its entertainment was the thing there, but it's not a scenic place by any means.
