Rob, life is full of ups and downs. I have learned that throughout life to enjoy the view on the mountaintop because it won't be long before I will be in the valley and won't even be able to see the mountain. I don't know you but love the dedication of this time to your dad. Carry on!

Hey again Rob, despite the age of this video, I'm sorry about you losing your father, my dad has been gone for almost four years already, plus I lost my mom back in May 2016, the same week as the big fire that swept through Fort McMurray, AB. On a brighter note, I do enjoy the variety of content on your two KZfaq channels, I also enjoy the outdoors of Thunder Bay and area, except in the winter, lol. Have a good day and week sir, bye for now.

Thanks Marc! Appreciate it! Ya, I'm not big on winters so much anymore, used to love skiing but not now.

Even if only for 3 days it's nice to get away when the stress and emotion of a great loss can seem overwhelming . Very sorry to hear about your Dad .

Inspiring, This year has been too busy for water adventure so the Pelican is covered in dust... at least we can watch your journey and dream, those canoe's are mighty light and seem to be the cats meow for this type of trip Looking forward to see more Thanks Rob all the best !

I highly recommend a kayak paddle. You will never go back unless you are a purist. I spent 4 days in a Prism last spring. I never took my butt off of the seat. I didn't dare. Not even to reach forward to shift a pack or reach for a fishing pole. Did not feel stable. I will try something new next year. I splurged and got a double bend Werner kayak paddle. Light as a feather. Very ergonomic for the wrists.

Thanks Man! Tried the kayak paddle when I first got this canoe, enjoy the traditional paddle more but I can see that the kayak paddle would be a bonus. Ya, the canoe doesn't feel that stable, takes a couple of days to get used to it each trip LOL!

Nice video! Looks fun and very nice canoe. How would that canoe do in the ocean? Could it handle the big wakes from fishing boats?
@OutdoorRob
@OutdoorRob 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think I could handle big waves but maybe a more experienced paddler could. I like it for what I use it for and the fact that it's very light, maybe 45lbs with my electronics on it. Thanks!

There are clips you can buy that will allow you to stow your paddle inside the boat, leaves your hands free.

Thank you for not ruining it with music. Next time turn the camera around towards the front so we can see & hear the experience instead of a guy & talking.

Wondering about your portage yoke mount. Is that something you purchased or designed?
@OutdoorRob
@OutdoorRob 5 жыл бұрын
I made the mount and wood part of the yoke, the pads were bought at an outdoors store. Thanks for watching Mike!

I have done 5 solo trips in a Minn3. I would chose it over a prism . To me , they J stroke is an energy sucking stroke. With a paddle, its stroke stroke switch and repeat. At least get yourself an ultra light paddle. Spend the big bucks. It will last you the rest of your life

Thanks Man! I have a nice light weight paddle now. Ya, like the switching sides as it works on both sides of your body equally.
@golfish8589
@golfish8589 8 ай бұрын
@@OutdoorRob a kayak paddle works both sides of the body.. If caught in high winds, or needing to cover ground, I would much rather have a kayak paddle. Have you paddled any other solos that you can recommend that is a little more stable
@OutdoorRob

Thanks Man! No, this is the only solo I have paddled. We also have a Quetico 17' two seater, it's a great canoe.

It’s probably a good idea not to have a fire in that wind . Thanks 👍🇨🇦

It was cold and damp, so my little fire wasn't going anywhere! LOL! Sometimes you need the illusion of heat to warm ya up!

nice canoe, but you should invest in some canoeing lessons. ppl that switch sides all the time need lessons, especially when buying a solo canoe.

Lots of ways to paddle a conoe, lots of critics...besides which, I can't bend my wrists for the "proper stroke"! LOL! Works for us "ppl"!

You're wrong, especially in relation to solo canoes. Most of Wenonah's solo canoes are designed for sit and switch... it's the preferred style of a lot of North American paddlers.

some ppl are winning marathon canoe races switching very often. The J stoke is a painfully ineficiant stroke.
