Najaf, Iraq ➖ I didn't know much about Najaf before I came to Iraq, and I certainly didn't know it was home to the worlds largest cemetery! 5 million people and counting are buried here, the aim to get as close to Imam Ali's holy shrine. I decided to check out the cemetery and it was a lot bigger than I was expecting!

Notes about this cemetery Its name: Valley of Peace Age: about 1400 years (people are buried there since Imam Ali was martyred until today, seeking blessings from him) The number of dead: more than 5 million, as every period many old graves are demolished and new ones are built on them But, Luke, why didn't you go to the end of the cemetery, where the Najaf Sea is located, which is a ferry from a large, low area that was a sea in ancient times, and now it has become buildings and large farms and a site for extracting salt Welcome to Iraq 🇮🇶✌️

11:40 was a family crypt. You coulda went down. It's very tight. The bodies are buried in the walls to make space. Sometimes crypts have levels, like 3, and it goes very deep underground. My father is buried at the Imam Hussain cemetery. Also, you're very welcome in Iraq 🇮🇶. God bless you. Imam Ali welcomes you.

Growing up in Kurdistan until the age of 13, I'm perplexed seeing someone visit a cemetery voluntarily. I suppose its easier to see places of burial when the people buried there are not connected to you. As a child, I absolutely detested burials and funerals. My auntie's husband died in the Iran Iraq war post Saddam forcefully conscripting Kurds to fight. Attending his burial and funeral when I was nearly 6 has stuck with me for my entire life. A couple of years later, we then had to re-bury 5 of his brothers who had been tortured and buried alive during Anfal. Death is something all humans have to deal with but these days the whole idea of having to attend burials and funerals filled me with nonthing but dread. Safe travels, friend.

It is said Prophet Adam and Prophet Nuh are burried next to Imam Ali so when you look inside the shrine there are 3 graves. Thus the cemetery is so big, it goes back a very long time, a lot of the prophets are buried in that graveyard. Like someone mentioned earlier valley of peace

@@living_peace The Shia sects have a belief of sending their beloved ones(dead) to the cemetery in Najaf and the one in Karbala as well and beside Iraq is not a new country with no history by which I mean dead from all previous generations are in that cemetery

I wanna ask you something did you felt happy when you was inside the shrine of Imam Ali . its said that ppl feel happiness in there hearts when they visit the shrine of Imam Ali peace be upon him . My self i remember last time i was there for 25 years ago . and I could not know why iam so happy in my heart that time intill i knew it was one of the things that is so speciell about the Imam Ali him self as person allways he used to make the prophet happy thats why ppl feel kind of happy when they are there visiting his holy shrine

Another wonderful vlog Luke. Although visiting a cemetery isn't fun place to visit but I have to admit this is really incredible how many people buried here for ages. Also not to mention Iraq was in wars for decades many iraqis buried here were the wood for these idiotic absurd US & Saddam's regime wars ... Travel safe bro
