yes it would have been epic to be riding back in the day. I am working on a film project of the discovery of the most iconic surfing waves in Indonesia in the late 60's early 70's and a similar thing of people going out into the unknown risking it all for a real adventure. I guess I was just a few decades too late 😂.

Yes parts are very similar, well yes a few different animals is all that gives it away sometimes. Hopefully I'll be able to ride over there soon, I have done a lot of road trips and hiking in the US, can't wait to ride it.

Well there are a lot of epic bikes out there, it's all about what you want to get out of your riding and skill level, I mean what Toby Price (graham jarvis, manuela lettenbichler etc..) would take on an adventure is probably totally different than most. I have found the Himalayan great for exploring, it's good on and off road, it got me thought everything I have asked of it, only my riding ability has let me down (see episode 2 😂, it wouldn't have matter which bike I was on with my skill level and the amount of gear). I have dropped it a bunch of times but no issue it just keeps going, oh and it is easy to lift out of the dirt or sand. I have a dirt bike if I want to get really loose but I definitely wouldn't be carrying camera gear on it. So it great for what I need, note if someone said hey you want to ride a postie bike or a Honda monkey across the country, I be the first one to say yes. As as the old saying goes, it's not an adventure until something goes wrong.

Glad you like the video. Yes it great being in the middle of nowhere all alone. I have had the husqvarna svartpilen 401 which is the same engine east the 390KTM, it is a more punchy engine, a great bike also. It will all depend on what type of riding you are going to do, if you are going to do longer trips and carry more gear it changes the characteristics of the bike, so the RE might suit better, if you were planing more shot trips with just a small bag on the back the KTM might suit better. The 21inch front on the RE is better off road when in rougher terrain, also if you go with the KTM get the spoked wheels as if you hit something really hard the rim will bend but you can keep going or you can straighten again withe spoke adjustment, the cast wheel once you crack them that's it. If you have ridden a dirt bike a lot and can through a bike around then the lighter KTM will do that better. If you do not have a lot of time on harder dirt tracks and trails then the tractor of the RE might suit you better. If you are going to listen to anyone about a bike, first understand how they used the bike and the type of ridding and their ability, then compare that to you. Someone who has won the Dakar rally will have a totally different point of view (and requirements) on the same bike as a beginner. If you have any other questions let me know.

I hade the 401 Svartpilen and road around Australia last year with 2 mates (some photos of the ride on instagram. It's a fun bike, more power cones faster, but not as good off road or caring gear.

Hi mate, I am using the older Sony A7RIII (I think they are up to version 5 now) I don't have a lot of room on the bike so I only take 2 lenses a Sony GM 70 - 200mm 2.8 and a Sony GM 24mm 1.4

Stoked you're enjoying them Chis.I've been make documentaries and filming for the last couple decades so shooting log and colourgrading is the only way I know how to do it 😂. Yes one day the algorithm might pick my videos up, I'm not great on all the analytics, tactic, self promotion, social media, I just like making films and telling stories. All my camera gear is on my back in a Shimoda Action X30 I used to film/shoot a lot of backcountry snowboarding overseas (before the pandemic) but the bag works really well on the Himalayan, the bottom of the bag sits on the pillion seat which takes all the weight off the shoulders so the shoulder straps just keep the bag balanced. The reason I keep all the camera gear in the backpack is to protect it from the vibrations from the road, dirt road corrugations etc.... my body and the pillion seat absorb the harder hits. In April/May/June I road around Australia on a motorbike with 2 mates (there are some photos here instagram.com/freewayproject/ ) we had another mate with us in a 4WD and even in that the sensors in my cameras that are 5 axis stabilised got damage (knock off the stabilised mounts) so I had to work out a way to keep the cameras from getting damaged. Hope that can help in some way.

I've trimmed my daily work kit to all fit in one decent sized Lowepro backpack + tripod so that was my initial plan, but I got put off that idea of the bag on my back in case of a spill which then led to wanting to jerry-rig a Pelican style hardcase on the back with some foam inserts and then the alu panniers for things like the drone and lenses in padded bags. I definitely love the idea of backpack as you to say to use your body and the seat to better absorb the shocks of dirt roads on a long term basis though as that's still my main concern. Might be back to the drawing board now 😂thanks so much for the input my friend And it definitely works. I love the stuff other people put out with just Rec709/simple stuff and GoPro footage etc too but the extra quality and A7SIII really helps solidify the story and feel so much more polished. Ought to post some of these in the bigger ADV/Himalayan etc groups on FB, I'm sure they'd go down a treat!

I'm not great on the whole social media thing, I don't have a Facebook and there is nothing instant about my instagram 😂 I normally post stuff months or a year later. So I am probably not the best with the whole getting it out there etc....

It is a great spot, there was no one else around when I was there. It has good facilities too.

Hi Alan, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, there will probably be around 16 -17 video from this adventure (still going) There are 11 videos so far and more trips planed for the future. Yes it is great exploring the outback with no real plan, just taking it day by day finding new places to explore and luckily in Australia there is so much variety form the outback to the beaches, coastline to the forrest, very fortunate here. Yes the Himalayan is working out well, get me everywhere I want to go, and when I drop it I can actually pick it up by myself 😂, I don't know if I could pick up a big adventure bike with all the gear on. Great to have you along for the ride, hopefully it distracts you from the cold wet weather for a bit.

The bike is fine on a bit of sand but once it got deep (see the episode 2 the one after this one) I had some issue, but I don't think it was the bike more the rider (me) plus the weight distribution, traveling like this for a month at a time I have more gear/weight on the bike and it is back heavy, also I have a backpack on which has my camera gear and it is 20+ kg so it becomes like a pendulum if I am standing and on the pegs moving around. Shed the weight and no backpack it feels more like my dirt bike position which is great. I would recommend nobble tires I used the dunlop D605 on the back (would have like the D605 front one on also going through the deep sand). Hope that helps.

@@freewayproject Thanks, it sounds like the Himalayan are a very competent bike nowadays. I was close to buying one a few years ago but a bit hesitant about the build quality, but I now see lots of people doing epic rides on them. Sand is always tricky, well for me at least, luggage weight certainly doesn't help.
