Going Solo

Welcome back to the channel! Join me on this camp as I hike up Crib Goch and follow the ridge to the summit of Snowdon, the second highest peak in the UK. After the summit, I hike back down and find a spot to camp on the ridge next to two small tarns. Once the tent is setup, I go to collect water and then relax and just take in the views before starting to cook dinner. On this trip I make gnocchi with Italian sausage and zucchini before heading to bed. The next morning I awaken to frost on the tent and an incredible sunrise. I couldn’t help but capture more drone footage in the morning before rushing to breakdown camp and hike back to the car. I couldn’t have asked for better conditions on the trip. I hope you enjoy watching this overnight trip next to Snowdon. Such an incredible place. If you have any questions about my gear, the location or would just like to say hi, please leave a comment down below. Thanks for Watching!
If you’re curious what I’m up to between my camping trips, consider taking a look at my Instagram page. I usually update that a few times a week with images from my shorter exertions in the outdoors! Link below!

I am a former UK resident who now lives in Michigan. I enjoy watching you partcipate in what I miss, the topographical variations over small distances in the British Isles, being able to get to a mountain or a beach quickly; the freedom to roam and the `public footpath systems`; wilderness camping free of bears and other crazy critters. You are a lucky man.

Wow you summed it up perfectly!! I agree! Being able to drive to completely different landscapes in a relatively short period of time and the network of footpaths and woodlands is AMAZING! Definitely feel very fortunate. I do however miss seeing more snow. I haven’t had a chance to drive up north when it’s actually snowing. I seem to miss it every time. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

@@GoingSoloOutdoors checkout the youtube channel, 'Scotland's Mountains'. He is walking in May and it is still actively snowing, (only an inch, but is is May.) Head North and East, I used to walk the Cleveland Hills (the Cleveland Way is a fantastic hills and coast long distance footpath of 110 miles) . Northumberland and Co. Durham are also beautiful. Enjoy it all.

If you have the mountains, WHY would you go to the beach? Crowded with flatlanders, townies, city-folk, why would you go there? Just for the exciting possibility of getting killed by a Tsunami?
@David_Avidmind
@David_Avidmind 3 ай бұрын
@Demun1649 I don't mean Palm Beach, Florida. I mean Druridge bay, and the beach around Alnwick castle in Northumberland, or the beaches around Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire. Not many, if any sun bathers or noisy families on these beaches.

@@David_Avidmind The tsunami will still get you, and the sharks, and the seagulls. Coasts are much more dangerous than the mountains. I was MRT for a couple of years, I know where I prefer to be. But each to their own, the more at the coast, the more room for us mountain goats.

This is a class video on many levels: the film footage outstanding; the hiking across Crib Goch was awesome - how is that even possible, I was on the edge of my seat; the drone filming is spectacular; the gourmet food cooking mouth watering; and that sun rise was just absolutely gorgeous. Brilliant thank you. Oh, and I’m so glad you are still talking on your vids.

When using any stove that requires a fuel canister you want to prevent condensation from icing up the canister exterior. It's easy to do, cut the toe area off a old pair of thick socks. Cut a small hole at the toe end then pull it over the fuel canister. The hole you cut is so you can screw the stove into the canister. By leaving the sock over the canister, no condensation can form on the canister exterior. The sock wrapped canister is more comfortable to sleep with inside your sleeping bag than the bare metal fuel canister. I ALWAYS begin a trip with a FuLL fuel canister. I use a GWorks Lindel valve for transferring fuel out of big fuel canister & into my small fuel canister until it is full.
@GoingSoloOutdoors
@GoingSoloOutdoors Жыл бұрын
All excellent tips. I have a cover for my canister however I don’t typically bring it if the temps are not getting below 20°F / -6°C. The jet boil MiniMo has a pretty fantastic fuel regulator and I haven’t noticed any performance issues in use above these temps. (I as well refill my canister each time with a cold weather fuel before each trip 👍😀 nice peace of mind knowing you have a full canister) It only just dipped below freezing on this trip, so I was also nowhere close to those temps. When the temps do get any colder than this I prefer to use my alcohol stoves. Either a trangia or now the X-boil that I used in my latest video where it got really cold. Thanks again for watching! Always a pleasure to have really thoughtful comments with great advice! All the best

I actually didn’t quite complete the horseshoe on this trip. The original plan was to hike the entire horseshoe route but I hiked down from where I camped as I needed to get back home to pickup my kids from school. That was epic!! 🙌🏻 Kudos.. Way too much expose for me to consider that particular route up Snowdon though..😳 Although I have been up to the summit, going up on the Rangers Path - back in July 2015, literally marched all the way up to the summit in 1hr 40mins.. when I got there I was staggered as to how many people were up on the summit that day, literally hundreds of them!! That spoilt it for me, that and the fact I didn’t have any views whatsoever due to mist/cloud.. However on my way back down (which hurt more than going up) it suddenly cleared, so I sat myself down on a rock for 45 mins, with nobody else in sight, and took it all in - wonderful memories…😎
@GoingSoloOutdoors

The crowds on the summit can definitely ruin the experience and the weather in Wales can be unforgiving at times! I’ve seen some crazy pictures of lines up the summit. It’s unfortunate. I feel very fortunate that I was able to hike Crib Goch by myself and only see a few people on Snowdon! Nothing like having a moment of peace and quiet with those views. Really appreciate you watching and the thoughtful comments! Hope you have a great weekend! ATB

Glad to see you got all the grey North Yorks mud off the lovely Enan! It's weird, when you said early on what you were cooking, I heard it as 'Niyoki' which I assumed was some exotic Japanese thing . The penny dropped when I saw the old Italian dumplings. Mrs Cotton Bud is Italian and gnocchi are a family speciality - usually in duck or rabbit sauce, yum.. 🤤. Can I be cheeky and ask where you bought the Italian sausage meat? Looked ace. An epic adventure this, as ever filmed brilliantly. But as far as I'm concerned, Crib Goch (and Striding Edge, and every other angular awkward approach to an otherwise reasonably accessible mountain) can piss right off 😅. I'm just too much of a wuss. Cheers! Rich. 👍

It took some time, but I was finally able to get the tent back to its original state. Haha I can absolutely believe I’ve been pronouncing Gnocchi wrong for years! Mrs. Cotton Bud’s Gnocchi with duck or rabbit sauce sounds amazing! As for the sausage, it’s just from a local Italian shop. It was surprisingly spicy but very tasty. Crib Goch was definitely the goal of the hike and Snowdon was more of a pit stop on my way to camp as I figured it would have people which I try to avoid at all cost on these solo trips 😂. I did manage to see a father and son coming down from Crib Goch on my way up but I was lucky enough to get the ridge to myself. Which was nice for filming! Thanks as always for watching and the comments. I look forward to seeing your next adventure! Hope you have a great weekend! ATB

@@GoingSoloOutdoors Dolomites are very nice but people are quite more like German than Italian (😂 because it's near Austria). Do u have goat in uk? The climbing, we say, it's like a goat road (road for goat). The alps in Piedmont or on the limit with France or Switzerland are much more Italian and not with the famous rock called dolomia (Mg,CaCo2). Also all the Appennino, from liguria to Calabria, near Sicily, 1000 km south, are very nice but more like your hike, not more 2000 m high and quite different in type of rock. Bye 👋
