Hi Leif, how's it going. I'm 69 and I've been trout and salmon fishing since I was a little boy, my dad, God rest his soul was a huge fishing fanatic and loved every minute of it. I've been caught up working too much and haven't fished much since he died in 2006. You've motivated me to get back into fishing, I live in Seattle and now I'm planning to travel to eastern Washington where my dad took my brother on many fishing trips, boy do I miss those times. My brother and my dad are gone so I'm going to do your solo fishing trips into the hills and mountains where you've been fishing. I'm getting all equipped and ready for next summer, I may even see you out there. Thank you Leif for getting me motivated again and back into fishing, your positive attitude and fun loving nature is a breath of fresh air in contrast to all that's going on today. When I was a kid in the 50's my dad had a cabin built on Lake Ki, he was a lawyer/stockbroker and drover into Seattle every day and drove back to the cabin at night, we also had a home in seattle, the cabin was our summer getaway, anyway, we had a big dock, two aluminum boats and we'd fish and catch crawdads all day long. Let me tell ya Leif, the crawdads we were catching off the dock in the late 50's and early 60's were huge, honestly they were 5 time larger and more than what you're catching. So everyday we'd let down fishing lines with a piece of a hot dog down into the lake off the dock, we could see probably 20 or more crawdads alongside our dock, the lake had tons of them, anyway, we'd catch 20 a day and put them into a huge aluminum pot filled with lake water, at the end of the day, we'd let them go and catch them again the next day. One day when we had the pot filled up my mom says don't let the crawdads go today, we're going to put the pot on the campfire and boil them to eat. I was horrified that there were going to eat my pets! They offered me some to eat and I said no way! I understand they were delicious, tasted very similar to lobster. We continued to catch them but I never forgot my parents eating them..hahaha. Sorry for being so long winded, great video, thank you for the temporary escape from concrete hell in Seattle. God bless you my friend and stay safe, I love your videos.

Aw, that's awesome to read Peter, Sounds like you had an awesome childhood..... I am 61 and looking forward to fishing again once my SS checks kick in this winter. Lol, I'll have my own spending money again as I haven't been able to work for 8 years.. Anyway, I haven't fished in decades. Too busy raising my kids then just life.. Work and other hobbies... . I live in Arizona and there isn't much fishing near where we live. Now I have grand kids that live near by and I want to teach them to fish. 1 is 10 and 8 year old twins. They have never been camping or fishing. So I am going to make it happen. Their Dad is too busy just as I was when I was raising him and his brothers... I am planning a road trip to Oregon next month with their Dad .( I am coming along to help with the kids. and navigate ) We are going to the Lincoln City area to see family and I hope to get the kids out on some lakes and streams. Ive been watching many YT videos to learn what tackle and bait to use. I wish I could afford a guide! ... Stay Safe, both of you!

Hi, Leif. Don't know if anybody has suggested this, but for crayfish (crawdads), if you open the tail "fan", and pinch, twist, and pull the MIDDLE "fin", the intestinte (poop veion) comes out cleanly, and with very little effort. Just a tip I learned!

I really appreciate your work ethic and think you have the luckiest job in the world. I just recently caught my first brook trout and am looking for a dolly varden and/or bull trout next. Maybe you could check out some hikes along hwy 20 once the fire is out. Some of those lakes up there have the best and biggest trout fishing I've ever experienced in an alpine lake and not to mention the feeder creeks that have awesome fly fishing! Thanks for all you've done with this channel and fish on! PS I know you have to be jealous of us west siders fishing for all the salmon 😂

I have a big scar on my left thumb, around a DM, that I got from sharpening wood in my backyard as a 13-year-old. The knife I used was also a very similar Swiss knife in red that I still have to this day and actually never washed to keep as a memory. I know it might sound odd but it's a very precious thing to me that I would not trade for anything in this world. I'm proud of my scar because it reminds me of my love of being a part of nature. Thank you for reminding me of my childhood and all the precious time I've spent outdoors and will now and in the future. Much love!

I’d just like to say, I discovered your channel about 4 hours ago totally by accident. Your channel is just sensational. It brought me joy along with some sadness. The joy from vicariously coming along with you on the chase. The sadness coming from how much adventuring I’ve missed out on in this life with the daily grind of surviving in society, and how much I have forgotten what it’s like to be out there deeply experiencing the wild…

I thought it was a 20 minutes video, I realised it only when the video almost ended 😅. Enjoyed it, truly. 👌

Greetings ! Troop here 🙋🏻‍♂️ for the MRE you want to fill beneath the water line instead of on it. Then, you fold the top of the heater Also, you do not place the cardboard on it. Instead place the water heater parallel to the ground. (The folded portion you want it facing the ground as well). Lastly, the heater will start boiling after 3-5 seconds and let the food cook to your desire. Then that’s when you open the flap and let the water out and take the entree out of the heater and put the entree inside of the cardboard cup). Amazing video btw.
