Dude Lance is probably so pissed over this one. He’s trained for decades to be the world’s best trainer and a child walks up to his chambers w/ a level 55 Stantler and dethrones him. That would be like if Usain Bolt was beaten in a 100M dash by a corgi. Like how would the world of competitive sports even react?
@solgaleo35333 жыл бұрын
I’m going to do some very flawed math for this, be prepared
@solgaleo35333 жыл бұрын
Okay, extremely flawed math time, and when I say flawed, I mean it. I googled it and corgis can come pretty close, being close to 3 k/h slower than Usain bolt. A German Shepherd nearly matches him at 28 k/h. Also, just for fun, I used a very flawed method to test Yamper’s speed to see how it’d compare, using our metaphorical Usain Bolt, Dragonite, as a baseline. If we take its dex entry literally and assume the pokemon world has the circumference of earth, which is approximately 40075 km, and we divide the 40075 by 16, we get an average speed of 2504.7 km. However, If we compare that to Mach 2, which is Pidgeot’s top speed, at 2469 km/h, we see that it can fly at over Mach 2, despite somehow having a lower speed than Pidgeot. However, the Pokédex states that Dragonite “Is capable of” whereas pidgeot is simply stated to “fly at” those speeds, so it’s possible that Pidgeot can do that without any training, whereas Dragonite might require it to be at level 100 and/or have a good spread of EVs/IVs. This means that Pidgeot would be a better comparison, so lets switch out our Dragonite for Pidgeot. If we use its gen VI speed stat of 101, and divide the 2469 by 101, we get… 24, which would give Yamper a top speed of… 624… yeah, I doubt a corgi is travelling at more than 1.5 times the speed of the magnet train… it would mean Regieleki travels at a top speed of over Mach 4, which is believable.
@prof.reuniclus212 жыл бұрын
@@solgaleo3533 Regieleki probably converts itself into pure electricity and runs long power lines or something
@solgaleo35332 жыл бұрын
@@prof.reuniclus21 yeah. That’s my explanation as to why it’s so slow in the Overworld and yet has such a high speed stat. It would normally convert itself to electricity and travel at insane speeds, but the player wouldn’t be able to keep up, so it instead has to walk with its tiny little legs, which it isn’t used to walking on.

Stantler's dex entries are some of the weirdest. Supposedly its antlers distort the air around them and bend reality, draw people in towards the black orbs and cause people to lose their senses if they stare for too long. On the one hand, canonically Slowpoke doenst notice when the tail is removed and it grows back without much fuss. It often falls off in fact, and in Alola it is used in stews. It is common in Alola to find them strewn everywhere, and Slowpoke do use their tails as both rods and bait for fishing. This raises the question of if removing the tail yourself is even necessary, as you can wait for it to fall off with it being so common. However, there are obvious moral gripes people can have. Its kind of weird, that Slowpoke loses its tail like a lizard might to distract a predator, but Slowpoke is so mentally slow I doubt thats what it uses it for, regardless of if thats what it evolved to do. Regardless, they are asking a small fortune for the tail in Gold and Silver, and if its as commonly found lying on the ground as we are led to believe, they are exploiting customers without really needing to necessarily do anything to the Slowpoke. Morally its a bit weird, but no harm is actually done to the Slowpoke to collect this so I suppose Slowpoke itself could provide meat to the general public when they arent having berries, fruit, veggies, rice, breads and stuff which are all canonical now. Matter of fact, as its considered quite good to taste and could be harvested without harming the creature on large scale and they are largely lazy, forgetful Pokemon and the tails dont take long to grow back using Slowpoke would be preferable to what we have as no animals would be hurt for quite a large amount of meat. Its 3 feet tall, and regardless of how thats measured its tail is quite large compared to its body. Considering all factors, the biggest issue Team Rocket runs into selling you the tail is they are exploiting you, due to how common them losing their tails is. Taking the tail from them is by far the most ethical way to get meat short of synthesizing it in the Pokemon world, as it causes no harm and grows back quickly.

Thank you for showing footage of wins and losses! Even if someone says "this battle was so hard, I lost like twenty times before I finally made it," if you only see footage of that one win it still just registers as being really easy because seeing is believing I guss.

You're welcome. I think it important to help tell the story of the run.

Try Misdreavus next, Ghost attacks are physical in Gen 2 and it hardly learns any move via level up..

I think my cousin discovered THE most obnoxious way to beat Whitney. She was using Miltank, and he was using Togepi. She went for rollout and he went for Metronome and got disable, leaving her defenseless. I think Jasmine has proven herself the most bipolarizingly difficult leader in the game. Either the Pokemon steamrolls her with super effective special moves, or they get walled and forced to grind to unreasonable levels. It was fun back in the day when steel types were new, and people were guessing at how to hurt them consistently. Even the gym guide isn't sure what to do.

I used Stantler when I was a kid to play against my siblings. That day I won so many games against them because of Hypnosis. Very nice memory :-)

Always feels great seeing Whitney getting thoroughly beaten! In my current playthrough of Silver, I used a Geodude with the Defense Curl - Rollout combo and gave her a taste of her own medicine!

Rewatching this because Game Freak remembered Stantler for Legends Arceus. Kind of surprised the weird deer did so well in Johto.

have been a huge fan of stantler ever since I did a mono-normal run of soul silver a while back. It’s so fun to cheese all the annoying strats when you don’t know what else to do

WOW!!! This guy is great at the game. He really has a good thought process around the game and he puts together really intelligently done videos. The data and the methodology and stuff is rigorous and we trust his results.

Cool run, something that could help is the Johto unique battle damage mechanic. In Gen 2, each gym has a secondary “reward” for defeating them. On top of the increase to your stats (so speed or attack etc.) you get the gym type Bonus. So if you beat the flying gym (gym 1) from that point on all flying moves get a 10% boost even if used by a non flying Pokémon. So after beating Whitney’s Miltank return gets the 50% stab boost from Stantler and the 10% gym boost making it from a 102 -> 168 base power move. This extra 10% boost could affect future move sets
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon3 жыл бұрын
This is awesome information. Thanks so much for letting me know this. I'll do some further research and mention it in a future video.
@nustacular3 жыл бұрын
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon no problem! i looked into it a bit and it looks like its even better than what i posted. its a 12.5% gym boost and the first gym badge gives you a 12.5% boost to attack so after beating Whitney you get all 3 for return. 102 base power + 50% Stab + 12.5% badge boost + 12.5% gym boost = 193 base power. Gen 2 is broken for normal type
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, normal types are so great here. As a kid I think I missed out on Return because it didn't have a cool name like "Flamethrower" or "Thunderbolt" haha

When I was young I caught a Stantler right away as I saw it. Though I never got to use it because some guy was interested in trading an item which could only be done be making it held by a pokemon and trade that via LinkCable. The deal was to only exchange items and trade the pokemon back after. However he ran away after my Stantler was on his cartridge and I never caught one again. My friends and me called this guy Stantler-Thief since then. I'm pretty sure he has joined Team Rocket by now.

Stantler isn't forgotten to me. Because of the frustration and hatred it gave me as a child. When I would run into it, it wouldn't let me flee and would put my Pokémon to sleep constantly while tanking all my hits. Oh! And the one time I did try to catch it as a kid. It was on low health and broke out of 10 great balls wasting them all. Stantler is engraved in my heart and memory with hatred for those reasons.

Awesome video man, Stantler is one of my favorites. Also I personally like/prefer when there's no handicaps placed on the movesets so this was perfect
