Yes!!! Always good to get that first fish of the year and especially something as delicious as a trout for a good old catch and cook. The hammock that I bought was a fail but the day made up for it with snakes and fish!

HAMMOCK COMPARE - The Eno vrs Haven hammock. The spreader bars on the Eno cause the whole unit to tilt like it does because of support lines running to the end of each spreader bar. The Haven uses the main ridge line for the support with no lines to the spreader bars for a better hang allowing for the flat sleep positions and easier "maneurvering" in & out and while your in the hammock. Always enjoy your videos my friend.
@BrooksandBirches
@BrooksandBirches 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dennis! I was thinking that, the points of tension seemed wrong, like when I was trying to clip the spreader bars in you could see how tight it made everything, which then made it unstable
@MrTmax74
@MrTmax74 4 жыл бұрын
Great video Brother. Two things going on with your hammock creating instability. Your suspension angles weren’t steep enough. Your looking for 30’sh degrees. Also, your pad raises up two or three inches, raising your center of gravity. To use a pad with a Bridge hammock u pretty much need to use a double layer hammock. Moving around is near impossible otherwise. And then if u run a line from your net up to the tree u can get more room in there. I hope u try it again. 🤘
@BrooksandBirches
@BrooksandBirches 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! I figured there must be something I was doing wrong as well obviously with me being a noob so I can't totally blame the hammock, I'm definitely not done with hammocks that's for sure, I think next time I'll be going with what people recommend and a bit more research on set up lol

Hello, i see you you bought a hammock with suspension bars. Not a good choice, there to unstable. DD Hammock is not the top rank in hammocks. The have good quality for a decent price, around 70 euro. The hammock have loops for suspension lines to make it wider en even more stable. The warbonnet is for people with a thick wallet. I shoot start with a DD frontline hammock. I is a great starter. And you need a rige-line for your tarp and to fix the bugenet so its out of your face. And the DD frontline is double layered so you can put your air matras in between so it stays. I prefer a underquilt but that is pursonal. And the straps need to be at least at shoulder hight. Hoop you find a good one. Because it is so much fun to sleep in. Greetings Steven

Great video like your honesty about the fish and you forgot pliers. Many people would of cut that out there video. Ow well you live and learn. Me and andy bought our hammocks of Amazon. Cheap and brilliant. The packaging had an eagles head on it. It was one of there most sold ones. Also you need an underquilt. We did a video on it. I learnt alot as andy done a wildcamp before. I recorded it so I can look back if I forget how to put it up. Nice to see the snake as well very interesting. I had the best sleep on that camp and never slept in one before. Keep it up. Bud, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. As a long time hammock camper, this was absolutely hilarious to watch. Don't give up on them just because of this one experience. Might be best to arrange a meet up with a seasoned hammock camper and give it a try with some assistance. Hammocks can require "fiddling" (which gets less and less with experience).

I haven't read through all the comments, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone else saw this. But the reason your hammock was tipping to one side is that the tree strap behind your head slid down the tree on one side. If the strap were level all the way around the tree, I don't think it would have leaned to one side. You found a really neat place to camp. Cheers!

When a hammock is breaking you in, and adjusting your sleeping habits, you might want to set up something in the back yard till your "adjusted". If it doesn't work, its a quick trip to the store for a return or perhaps a trade for a different type. Then go for a sleep in the woods. Good job on the fish. Bleeding gills is a dead fish. Take note on the cooking fire. Yeaaa! Cooking on hot coals not a raging fire like I see so many do. Good job.
@BrooksandBirches
@BrooksandBirches 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Don! Yeah I think that's a good idea, I have a couple of trees in the back yard so anything I get next time I will probably play around with out there for a couple of days before I bring it out with me! As for the fish I appreciate that because I was a little worried about releasing him and to know I made the right call makes me feel better
@donlute3444
@donlute3444 4 жыл бұрын
Something I've learned and are learning I'd like to share only to help others. Fish.....where the gill opening starts under the mouth alot of times if you slide a knife blade in and cut toward the front, you might feel a pop. This will bleed the fish out. No dark line at the top of the fish on the inside. Works great for salmon and steelhead. Gill damage is always a dead fish. Money budgets are, at times, difficult. How ever, when buying anything, research, cuz high price doesn't mean the best, get the best quality you can. No one, for the most part, complains about product satisfaction. Poor quality is wasted money. Think about how you want to feel in life, how you want to be treated and give that to others. That's just a start in life.

Amok do great flat lay hammocks, some you can even set up to use as a seat when you aren’t sleeping! Also have ones to put your sleeping pad inside of so it doesn’t move around when you do. A bit more expensive than this one but still not as much as the others you mentioned! :)

If you want to learn everything there is to know about hammocks, watch all of Shugemery's KZfaq videos. He is the one who started many people into the hammock world. He is a big "gathered-end" hammock fan, and I must say, when done correctly, they are the best. I was a big tent fan until going to a gathered end hammock and now you would have to beat me to make me use a tent again. Ended up with a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC and absolutely love it. There is a correct way to hang a gathered end hammock though. Don't pull them tight, and lay diagonally in them. Shugemery has great info videos.

As a side sleeper I can tell you that hammock sucked, don't judge all hammocks on that thing. I have a grand trunk skeeter beater and that thing is great. The trick is to learn how to set a ridge line on your hammock so you can lay diagonally. That way you can lay flat.

I never liked the hammocks with the bars. I use a modified eno camonest, that I added my own continuous ridgeline too and my own loops at each end with amsteel, to that I use light weight straps for climbing gear not really for holding weight but they hold my 220 lbs ass up, then i got a cheap bug net for hammocks off amazon and it covers the hammock totally i found that better because bugs were biting me from below. i use a becket hitch to attach my hammock to the straps and get a wicked sleep, off the ground every time. this set up is so warm, i never even do up my sleeping bag i just use it like a top cover and still its so toasty in there, a nice big aqua quest tarp for the win, that tarp can be set up to provide me with doors or a big porch, and it can be hung high or right down low to the ground for totally wind coverage. and very light cordage for a tarp ridgeline and tie outs, the whole kit weights little and packs up small. oh and I use a lightweight sleeping pad in it too, been thinking about trying underquilt but don't like the added bulk. I am telling you man once you nail the set up you will never go back. I have not used a tent since I achieved my perfect hang.
@BrooksandBirches
@BrooksandBirches 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy! I think the bars were probably part of the problem to be honest and watching it back I think the way the "toggle" sat in the carabiner was creating a problem as well, making it want to lean to one side. I'm definitely not done with hammocks for sure and I'm sure I'm some what to blame for the way this one turned out but I think I'll be trying a more traditional style one next time
