After graduating film school in the midst of a pandemic, I felt disillusioned with the prospect of becoming a filmmaker. I took nearly two years doing everything but filmmaking for me to return to the notion that this is what I have to do, what I was meant to do with my life.
I traveled from my parents' house far upstate to go to NYC by myself for two weeks. After having recently watched the show GIRLS for the first time, a decade after it aired, that show and all its funny, embarrassing complexities were heavy on my mind. From Brooklyn to the West Village, Manhattan to Soho, this is a story of being alone, but not lonely, full of longings, memories, and musings in the city that never sleeps.
Here's to embracing the shows and films and music we hold dear. Here's to being an artist without shame. Anything could happen.
