Love this book. Almost a game in itself considering how much you can enjoy not actually at the table. The last campaign (fantasy) using this approach saw the campaign dominated by poor commanders and smallpox, laying seige to the objective city. I found for CC just simple rolls brought personalities to life for the worst commanders: seasoned admiral pressed into the defence of a coastal fortress, privileged simpleton in charge through family connections, but who begins to earn his spurs, winning 2 key engagements, beleaguered watch captain too beset by domestic strife to train his men properly to resist the unexpected invasion. Very comprehensive but you can take or leave elements to suit your needs.

This book is a great read. There are two others also worth checking out: Military Modelling Guide to Solo Wargaming by Stuart Asquith Programmed Wargames Scenarios by Charles Stewart Grant Plus here is an old podcast series dedicated to solo wargaming (so rare!) no longer online but reuploaded to youtube thanks to a kind soul: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bc6XmJaU3qmnkWQ.html

The Ulfhethnar Thank you for pointing me to these three resources, none of which I knew about. Unfortunately right now I don’t see those books available a a reasonable price but I will add them to my list. They seem great. And I will be listening to that podcast today. Much appreciated!

Geek Gamers Asquith's is still available on Amazon, while C S Grant's is quite rare but that one is a true classic. You mentioned that there would be a forthcoming video where you would be implementing some of the contents of book. Which video was it? I would be very interested in seeing what you decided to do.

Yes that had been my plan. I want to use these in conjunction with some fantasy miniature rules but filming has been a challenge since the scale makes it such that I need someone to film for me. That’s been the challenging part. Rest assured this is still on my “to do” list. Someday! Thanks for watching and for the reminder.

Hi GG, Going off topic but relevant to another video, Ancient Odysseys. Does that system contain a full Character creation system? How does task combat resolution work? Can you build you own dungeon? Can you take your characters up to the wilderness? Thanks!!!!

usapatriot4163 The MORE TREASURE AWAITS book has wilderness/overland/outdoor material in addition to more actions/races/traps etc. There are character creation rules and dungeon creation rules too tho bear in mind that all these are fairly light. Each book less than 100 pages long. Thought I showed combat in the vid but can’t recall now. You are taking an ability eating + skill rating + d6 roll against a difficulty rating which can be impacted by a creatures size, etc.

hmmmm... i might have missed it but is there anything in this book having to do with providing some kind of an AI for the opponent? so if i set up a game of warhammer 40k, are there any tables that will tell me what the opponent is going to do on their turn?

jin choung No there are no specific tables showing how the enemy would act. There are, however, suggestions about how to create orders for an opponent which can then be randomly chosen during a battle as well as a d6 table (p. 13) for “initial mobilization and reaction”. I show this table around 2:29. But this is large scale such as when the defender mobilizes. This is campaign level.

It is designed to supplement any wargaming rules set. It does not present rules itself but rather guides for randomly generating things like weather, logistics, morale, terrain, siege defense factors, etc.
