Join me for an epic overnight adventure wildcamping next to mountain tarn.
Heading up onto the stunning Lewis tops, I visit the awesome Brass Monkey Bivvy before finding a spot to camp.
I experience an absolutely amazing sunset and wake up to another bluebird day. Making my way down into the Lucretia Valley, I visit Lucretia Biv and head out to the Highway via Nina Valley. Hitching a ride to get back to my car.

BK, you are one of the luckiest human beings on the planet, to live near such amazing landscapes. NZ has got to be the most beautiful country on earth. Thanks for sharing it with your viewers! Looked like a hurricane up there. Glad you kept your feet on the ground! Cheers.

Nice vid. That camp spot was mint. I wanna get up that way some time. Dirty chocolate pud is pretty good after a big day. The tropical pudding is tasty also maybe even nicer

@@BackcountryKiwi It was much better than our first trip there. We went up via the Duchess Stream and then hit white out conditions on the tops. It was a bit of a disaster.

Another great overnighter. Great seeing you using poles to ease the loading on the legs. Like your little cooker seems to do the job fine. Glad to see you have the Garmin Red Mini (2 ?) just in case. Radix should be sponsoring these videos.

Thanks George. I never used to use poles but I started carrying them to use for my tent and now I love them. Some older folks are a bit surprised when I tell them I use poles haha. I really enjoy my alcohol stove especially for shorter trips, it's great. I've had my mini (1) for like 4-5 years now, I love it. Being able to let my family know I'm algood is a huge weight off their minds. Cheers!

Good decision making when you got to the spur, retreating is often physiologically hard. Your extra camera distance efforts wasn’t lost on me 👍 What’s the tripod & front pouch you use please?
@BackcountryKiwi
@BackcountryKiwi Жыл бұрын
Cheers Dave. It can be tough know you have to retrace your steps but definitely worth it in the long run. Thanks, it's worth it for the cool shots 🙂 The tripod is a benro mini tabletop tripod and the shoulder pouch came with my macpac hesper 40l pack. I don't think they sell them separately unfortunately.

Hey man! This was incredible!! The work that goes into these videos must be through the roof! Having to navigate a knife edge ridge for a good ways and then hike all the way back to get your camera. That sounds badass! I’m 51 but when I was your age i was backpacking big mountains in the Southern California desert so we had to carry 3 gallons of water up 5-6 thousand feet climbs. 3 gallons was minimum for 3 days. Crazy weight back then! At some point i do want to give the ultralight stuff a go. Hey, i had a question… at 28:55 there was a super bright spot on the mountainside in the frame. What was that? Anyway,, great watch sir!! Thank you gor your hard work!! NQU

Thank so much man! It's alot more work thank just hiking but I really enjoy capturing it. Your trips sound epic! That's alot of water. I want to say that spot on the mountain is a patch of snow but I don't recall seeing any snow but I'd say that is what it is. I appreciate you watching and your comment! Cheers

Such an enjoyable watch, great video! Can I ask a couple of questions; was there a trail of sorts to follow down that spur you took (2nd one) at the head of Lucretia? And where did you park at the trailhead (the one tucked away just after the pass?). The St James Walkway carpark by the tarn is notorious for break-ins - that would make me nervous to leave a car there.
@BackcountryKiwi
@BackcountryKiwi Жыл бұрын
Hi J! There was a few cairns marking the route. And there has been a bit of a track cleared down to lucretia biv. I parked at the st James walkway carpark. I was half expecting to come back to a broken in car haha. There was a few cars in the carpark so I figured it was safe enough. I just made sure there was nothing left in my car. Hope that helps. Cheers
