FUN FACT:
Vinal Lake is named after Leslie E. Vinal, an 1895 Yaak miner, 1896 Pine Creek homesteader and Forest Service employee. Vinal Began his Forest Service career in 1910 on the Kootenai National Forest, later becoming the Kootenai National Forest Supervisor (1920 to 1922).

Thanks man! not a "real" hike by any stretch...just a reason to get out there and be outside. With this cold weather snap, it may be a minute before I can get out again. Stay warm my friend.

Yeah, you're probably itching to do a few runs down the mountain....and get out for a winter campout and hang around the fire and b.s.. The only thing good about this last weekend was the Packers beat up on the Cowboys.

Yeah 3 dudes came in on Saturday and left around 5. They didn't catch anything. Then 3 dudes came in at like 7:45 a.m. and I was just as surprised to see them as they were to see me.

Funny you say that u miss the howl... somehowsomewhere in my file transfers, I lost a bunch of footage. That footage had a bunch of opening stuff on it , that's why it wasn't there. But hey ....u got the Pez dispenser...yet another Seinfeld reference.

Blitz is 100% Malamute and loves the cold. He's effen crazy. I thought about booties....but if he needs booties it's probably 2cold for us to be out anyway. Once it hits below 25° it's not worth going out.

The wind coming off the lake in the a.m. was a bit chilli...but all in all it wasn't to bad. Blitz sleeps under my hammock on a blanket so we both kinda stay warm that way. But it is kinda nice just being out there by yourself against the elements. However, no way I was going out this last weekend...efffff that. Hopefully, this Saturday I get out...and at least do a day trip.

Awesome, thanks so much. Greatly appreciated. Soon as this weather gets better here in NM Montana ,Blitz and I want to get out. I'm not a fan of slush camping. However, not getting out and is not helping with the depression. Hopefully, this weeknd the weather breaks, and we can at least do a day hike.

Hey that hat is awesome. It's actually hand knitted from repurposed clothes from goodwill. My friends wife in Alabama knits them and sells them for like 40.00 . Mine was a Christmas gift. It's funny looking , but I enjoy anything that someone took the time to make for me. Actually at our age Greg...I'm happy even to get a gift. lol

1:20 Explains the low snow pack. The snow flakes are going from the ground to the sky. That El Niño is bad stuff. BTW, Did the Onewind Tarp keep the snow out of the hammock?

Yes the Onewind is great...I just messed up and didn't think there would be so much wind coming off the lake. I like to leave a gap so Blitz can come and go as he pleases and the gap also helps with the condensation.

That was the plan...but frack...it gets so dark so fast.. .I'm sure i wouldn't have caught anything. 3 guys came in around 3 p.m. and fished till a little after 5...and they didn't catch anything. But I have heard Vinal is an awesome lake to fish.

I need to get journey to pull a sled like that. Ha ha. Where does blitz sleep when you were in the hammock ? On the ground?

Lol it makes life easier...however I have to be picky where I go...wide trails. ..I have his blanket I bring from home and I put that on top of a foot print, he then usually sleeps under the hammock. Which is a win win for both of us. In the summer I let him pretty much sleep wherever he wants to. Alaskan Malamutes love cold weather. However this weekend I didn't let him outside very much -32°.
