In this video, I show you the best way to lay down solos easily over the great jazz standard Autumn Leaves. Using only the Bebop Harmonic Minor Scale will produce cool and smooth jazz phrases without a whole lot of effort. By doing this, you can eliminate trying to solo over each chord change which can lead to stale or boring sounds. Try using it over the tune and watch the magic happen. I like to call it the Golden Scale to use over this tune because it works so well. Try it and let me know what you think! Please leave me a comment or a question and thanks for watching!
If you want to take an even deeper dive into this song then try my lessons on 'Autumn Leaves' at the Guitar College Library. I walk you through everything step-by-step, very slow, and explain things more in-depth than here on KZfaq. Most of my lessons there are 20 to 45 minutes as compared to just a few minutes long here on KZfaq!

Also, I have hundreds of other lessons for guitar players who like Jazz, Blues, Bebop, and Fingerstyle guitar arrangements. There are also a lot of lessons on guitar technique and guitar scales along with exercises meant to build your chops. Check them all out here: guitarcollegel...

Beautiful soloing. Rich is one of the most tasteful and melodic players I’ve heard. Why isn’t he more well known? I know his channel is popular but as a solo artist who records and plays live I’ve never heard of him.

How does one even throw a compliment without sounding arrogant? This is good. Thanks for the demonstration. If I don't achieve playing this tasteful, I can still listen, as long as there are some good players like yourself out there giving us something to listen to.

Very cool. I will definitely mess around with this. Haven't got into any bebop scales yet, but I do play with some Barry Harris chromatic scale ideas, and I like the idea of using both possible 7ths.
