But most of them were rapists, they used to take our sisters, go with them to the Bush, made them pregnant and supplied them with stds And yet my father would have slaughtered a calf for them and my mother, aunts prepared dinner. They caused more harm than good. As soon as they leave our homestead my parents would be left with the responsibility of concealing the tororo evidence from the mabunuz. Many a times, our gallant Chimbwidoz for eg Resa would rush to them alerting them that the soldiers were coming, instead of clashing them head-on they would escape beyond the mountains and leaving the whole village to be butchered by maShoja. 60% of these comrades, I don't appreciate the work they did.

I was there, I even remember most of those operating in my region by their names. They were not even commandos, its a big lie. Most of these so called comrades would evade whenever they hear the soldiers were coming. Very few stood up to the soldiers, especially when they hear a chikopokopo coming, they would run for dear life. But they were good of burning people accused of witchcraft, batengesi, and raping young ladies and demanding sadza with beef.

@@zheepou-geb5448 First time to read a different view about these guerillas. In our media they are potrayed as heroes. The media doesnt mentuon how theyd terrrorise civillians . Many people in the village died in their kangaroo courts accused of being vatengesi with no evidence. Guerrilas accounted for most civillian deaths during the war. Theyd never face the army head because they didnt stand a chance. Their major activity was politicising the villagers. Im a born free but I was told gruesome tales about these vana mukoma by my relatives.

Chipo Mutasa Yes Chipo you are correct in how they treated the local population. As a white soldier in the Rhodesian army and having seen action in Most of the operational areas internally as well as externally it is the memories of some of the atrocities that mainly Zanla inflected on the population. Locking families in a hut and setting it on fire. Removing the limbs of a headman in front of the village, Beating to death a man in front of his wife and children. Cruel, vile bastards who made killing a pleasure. I read that you are free and in hindsight I feel we all could have achieved a better outcome for all and Zimbabwe could have become the beacon of light in Africa. Sadly this was not to be and I look at the country of my birth with sadness from far away. Good luck in your future Chipo 💪💪
