Trigonometry on Khan Academy: Big, fancy word, right? Don't be fooled. Looking at the prefix, tri-, you could probably assume that trigonometry ("trig" as it's sometimes called) has something to do with triangles. You would be right! Trig is the study of the properties of triangles. Why is it important? It's used in measuring precise distances, particularly in industries like satellite systems and sciences like astronomy. It's not only space, however. Trig is present in architecture and music, too. Now you may wonder...how is knowing the measurement and properties of triangles relevant to music?? THAT is a great question. Maybe you'll learn the answer from us in these tutorials!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

question: if we want to define the cosine of the angle in B, do we have to define another goniometric circle centered in the B vertex?

Where can I find a more indepth view of the concept covered here around the Pythagorean theorem, I am struggling like crazy with that.

cos and sin seem to be calculated as a ratio i.e. sin 0 = opposite length/hypotenuse length. Why is he using the length of the sides here?

Its a 45-45-90, or a pi/4-pi/4-pi/2. so 1/sqrt(2). We don't have to go through the whole pythagorean theorem

An easier method is; Since we know π/2 is 90 deg then π/4 will be 45 deg. Explanation:- π/2 = 90(cross-multiply) π = 180 π/4 = 180/4 - 45 deg.

Dittos here, I'm severely lost as well and have been struggling with this topic for many hours. While I admire this guy's teaching ability, he just fails in clarifying this particular detail.

That's because he explained it in previous videos. Watch www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra2/trig-functions/unit-circle-definition-of-trig-functions-alg2/v/unit-circle-definition-of-trig-functions-1 to learn about the unit circle

You need to stop repeating yourself, it's really annoying and I got it the first time you said it. If I needed to re-hear it I would turn back the video.

what about the people who dont get it? there's some people who cant grasp the concept as easy as you can, so it would be nice if you ignored the reiteration. after all, its just a 7 minute video, right? 😊
