I've always sensed that Sisko regarded the Klingons as honorable warriors, but too stuck in their traditions to move beyond that. They are a great people, a vast and powerful empire, but they'll never reach the level of unity and advancement as the Federation.

Sisko should have brought up the Roman Empire. And to show that humans once knew about being a warrior. That two warriors need not say much. As they know much about each other already. Would make a good history lesson for Worf. To show that humans can be warrior like and an advanced civilization.

Yeah, even pirate ships didn't actually operate like "pirate ships". Like Jadzia said, Social and Military Hierarchy is strictly enforced. Normally Captains are chosen by the Admiralty or the House Lords, depending on who they serve, the Captain chooses the 1st Officer and Senior Staff, the 1st Officer usually decides the duties of the junior crew, or in larger commands it's done by the Section Chiefs who report to the XO. If a Challenge is made it can only be done by a subordinate to his immediate superior, only for a specific set of reasons (cowardice, incompetence, dishonorable conduct, etc.), and only with the permission of the Captain or 1st Officer, issuing a Challenge without their permission lands you in the Targ Pen. Only the 1st Officer can challenge the Captain, and if successful still has to justify the challenge to the Admiral/Lord. Killing the Captain without just cause is still treason.
@richardarriaga62719 ай бұрын
Pirate captains were often elected.
@AsaelTheBeast8 ай бұрын
Real pirate ships did most things by vote. The captain was elected, but he only had command in battle- otherwise most things were decided by consensus. The quarter master often had more say than him. They even had contracts- that would cover compensation if you were wounded on duty or killed (in which case, your family would get the compensation.) what duties you were expected to perform, and how many shares you'd receive after the cost of ship maintenance. (most people would only get a single share, though skilled labor like carpenters and leadership roles like the captain would get a little bit more. Usually the highest or second highest paid job would go to the doctor- reason being that it was hard to find doctors willing to sign on with pirates.) There wasn't terms of service because often times, anyone who wanted to stop being a pirate would just leave when they made port. It's not like there is anything the crew could do to stop them. It basically had to be this way, because Pirates didn't have the backing of a nation that would enforce the rules in the event of say, a mutiny.

Weird idea. Worf was going to give up until he saw the look in Martok's eye, and so went back into the ring a final time... but it was Martok who tried to get him to give up when the fight was going badly. Those Klingons were allowed onto the Promenade with their side arms; presumably, security was relaxed following Martok's stationing there along with a permanent military presence.
@brandonfrancey55923 жыл бұрын
Difference between giving up and accepting defeat. Worf planned on giving up. To not fight back and be killed. It's unknown if the Jem'Hadar would have actually killed Work or not. Maybe he was going to attack a guard and get shot. When Martok told Worf to stay down, he said honor was satisfied. Worf proved he had honor and bravery even though he was defeated. He fought bravely even though he succumb to his injuries. Had Work accepted defeat and stayed down, the fight would have been over and Worf taken back to his cell.

I presume that as they were in a time of war, relieving the Klingons of their weapons was more trouble than it was worth and may have discouraged cohesion, as opposed to Lursa and B'etor who showed up in peace time AND were known criminals who Oda forced to give up their weapons.
