I went to a reptile expo yesterday and saw a few different people selling tarantulas and one of them had and enclosure set up with a fake human skull with a dark den logo on it. I know that this is a bad design choice but I really liked the support and recognition that they know your channel. Looking forward to more content and it's amazing to see how far your influence can reach.

The horn is actually very useful. It provides a very helpful aid with their eating. It provides a very good boost to their "suction" in their fangs when (for lack of a better term) they drink their preys insides that they have liquefied with their venom.

The "horns" are anchor points for musculature I belive. Remember that the carapace is an exoesqueleton and has to support muscles and organs!

I know I’m sooo~ late to the party, but holy smokes that OBT is furious and area around her venom glands looks like a gateway to hell! I’m insanely afraid of spiders in real life(even of those homely little critters called daddy long legs spiders) and also I’m utterly enthralled by the extraordinary beauty of the creatures You own... Before my stress related allergy to almost any arthropod bites came out I wasn’t that much scared of them all because as my Grandfather used to say “every creature on this planet deserves to live and thrive” whenever we were observing them when I was a little girl, but ever since my health issue flared up for the first time, I’m anxious to even get close to a teeny-tiny ant without having some sort of protection like a longish piece of stick or a glass and a piece of paper. I’m so thankful for You for giving me and other people as well an excellent opportunity to witness the charm of Your in most cases dangerous pets. :) Much love for You and for the bunch of Your eight-legged friends ❤️

I asked the same question (re: horns) to Tarantula Kat and on The Tarantula Collective’s Livestream. According to TTC Facebook page’s admin who is a scientist, the horn is indeed thought to be for better anchoring in their burrowing material/holes. I was extremely curious what evolutionary function they play. TK also wondered if it may also be something to hold extra moisture, but the scientist lady didn’t confirm that part. I thought it was also a good theory!

red refers perhaps to the pigment responsible of the orange-red colour spectrum ? Also in english the term red refers sometimes to colours that are more orange than red, like for red haired persons.
