This enormous 12'X9' hand-knotted oriental persian wool rug was in the trash on the curb. Not anymore.

Nice one Brad. Bicarbonate of soda in a warm water mix. . it kills all the proteins and removes all smells. Just let it soak for an hour or two and then wash out with the soap. It's the only way to remove smells in cars as well. Works a treat.

Oxi-clean laundry powder really does work for the odors ... a 30 minute soak does a heck of a job on the odors in rugs.

I was hoping for your sake that this wasn't an actual handmade knotted wool rug and that is was a machine made nylon/poly fiber. The reason I say this is because I worked for a dry cleaning company for a while and learned and saw why wool should NEVER be cleaned using water. Just like a wool suit needs to be dry cleaned for the same reason. Although, you were able to get it cleaned using water it will now over time pucker, pil, and shed fibers. You will probable get a few years of use before you start seeing these things start to happen. I agree that it should have been salvaged as you stated but I bet the owners did not want to pay to have it properly dry cleaned. A rug that size would cost about $300 to $500 to have dry cleaned depending on if you get a pickup, clean and drop off service or take it to and pick it up for the oriental rug cleaner. FYI - just so people understand that dry cleaning only means "no water" it does not mean no liquid. Dry cleaning involves liquid chemical cleaning agents that will not damage wool and other fabrics that water will damage.

Yet another good save! Time spent cleaning rug like that one is time well spent. You can treat it with enzymatic cleaner to remove pet and urine odors. I've used Mister Max Anti Icky Poo UNSCENTED Odor Remover to treat cat pee odors in my house after I caught my senior cat peeing in his room.

Put it on the front lawn using the grass as a green screen. With the leaf blower, you have an awesome flying carpet practical effect. SPF from Baghdad! I like your camera assistant, she's doing a great job!

That's a great investment. One of your rooms will be all the warmer for it come the winter chills. Someone was clearly pure lazy to just let this item go to the curb. Their loss, your gain.

Next time drape it over the fence behind you before you hit it with the pressure washer so the dirt runs away easier brother. I did the same with some Persian rugs I got left with when my ex left that were bought from Iran back in the 70's and worth the effort of cleaning her little dogs excrement off of. Down here most backyards have what we call a Hills Hoist (a kind of washing line) they are very strong and perfect for this kind of cleanup 🤟

Nice save Brad. That's definitely a really good quality rug. Would of cost thousands new I reckon. I've had good luck cleaning rugs with car snow foam in a lance. But man is it a lot of work. Good on you for saving it.

Nice find and a nice save! Rugs arent cheap these days, even those machine made ones are pricey once you get up to that size or bigger. I watched some guys on YT a couple months ago professionally cleaning rugs. They have this fancy dryer, its long like a tube. They roll the carpet up, and stick it inside, then it spins out the water, and it might also have a dryer built in.? When i was a kid my parents had some huge rugs to protect the wood floors. Not sure what happened to them when we moved into a house that was fully carpeted. But Im sure they did not throw them away! Lol White vinegar works wonders on smells and stains IMO. Is that your neighbors black fence? Hang it on there to dry. lol

Would have maybe been easier to do the initial soaking with a plastic tarp the wash and then roll it off on to pallets or just some planks for the rinsing wash so whatever left overs have actually a chance to go through the material but glad you got a good rug out of it.

Very nice find, that rug may have sold for a lot of cash. If it was machine made I would think it would. still be in the 4 to 5 hundred dollar range or even more. I live close to Caple rugs here in NC they have been making them for over 100 years, I may stop by and see what a 9× 12 goes for these days just for the fun of it. anyway peace brother.
