Ted Lewis was my grandmother's first cousin. My grandmother lived with his family for a few years when she was was a child. I see many similarities between Ted and my grandmother. She loved to recite poetry with the same flair that Ted has when he speaks on stage.

I want to cry when I hear that! Tears of happiness. I love your family. I grew up on Ted Lewis records it’s one of my earliest toddler memories. It helped me go through illness and survive as a teenager

Such a charismatic entertainer. He had the audience in his hands with every performance.

Ted Lewis was a great entertainer. I enjoyed his appearances on the early Ed Sullivan Show of Shows. What wonderful memories it brings back.

Steven Meyer I went there when I was on a road trip to visit a friend down south. A smiling, unshaven college student with messed up hair at 11am on a weekday. The tour guide probably thought I was insane.

A brief excerpt of a more energetic version of this act appears about ten minutes into the 1934 film Evelyn Prentice, uncredited even on IMDb, but Wikipedia attributes it to the Nicholas Brothers 😀

I saw this feature, and for some reason it reminded me of the shorts Louis Lewyn produced for MGM.

After he saw the film, Ted disparagingly came up with a subtitle for "Here Comes the Band": "There Goes Lewis" They really marginalized him in the production.

My dance teacher, a white guy had been Ted Lewis' shadow before he opened his studio. No racism is intended here.
