Ted was 77 here and this was possibly one of his last appearances. Always grateful to The Hollywood Palace and Ed Sullivan for giving these great old timers one last moment in the spotlight.

For instance Margaret Dumont's charming final appearance with Groucho - a really touching moment... she died right after.

At 77 he certainly didn't change much facially. As a 78 record collector, it's good to see these entertainers in their later years.

He isn’t really a singer … but a fantastic old time entertainer … like Jimmy Durante but cornier. My hat’s off to you, Mr. Lewis.

I've got a feeling that a Black "shadow" was problematic by 1967 and that's why it's O'Connor doing it.

Anyone else thinking... Is he ever going to stop talking and start singing? I mean what is this? Acting to music? Reciting dialogue to music? I don't get it at all.

He never sang his songs. He always talked thru them. I collect his records, and even though he never sang them he had some GREAT orchestra members to make his records really jazzy and extremely enjoyable.

I am guessing you are a bit younger than I. I was reared on music from the 20's through the 50's via my dad. Ted Lewis was big. Bigger than Paul Whiteman in the Jazz genre. Kept his band together through the depression while many others folded. He and his wife lived in a 15 room apartment overlooking Central Park. Always gracious. Tastes change but I still enjoy revisiting the music and the performers from the past on occasion. Ted Lewis may not have been the greatest musician, but he had the greats working for him.
