SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE! The Story of Jenson Button Signing for TWO TEAMS in 2004

Contracts. They're tough. They're air tight, or at least, as air tight as you're gonna get. Because they need to be covered and getting out of them can be a mission.
And in a world like Formula One, you might need out for whatever reason, because something's happened or you've seen an opening. Or if you're Jenson Button, you need out because something's gone a bit wrong with how people have interpreted the clauses contained within.
Allow me to explain... Well... I'll TRY to, at least...
Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

The thing in the corner is because I left my headphones on my mic stand and didn't realise until I'd recorded. So instead of re-recording, just cover it up! Unless, of course, you think it looks profesh in which case...

@idriscorvus2237 Yeah Messi's initial youth contract with Barcelona was written on a napkin during his visit to La Masia. The story is that Messi's father had concerns about Barca's hesitations to sign him, so during a meeting between him and Barca's then sporting director, the grabbed the only thing they had available, a napkin, and quickly wrote down an agreement to sign the 13 year old Leo Messi. There was an official contract signed shortly after, but the napkin is still considered to be Messi's first Barca contract

Hot take: Button's 2004 season was better than his championship winning season. Was best of the rest behind the RB20's ancestor, the F2004, was on the podium plenty of times, could have come away with a handful of victories and all the time was in the middle of a tug of war between B.A.R Honda and Williams. And to keep his head and do what he did was fantastic.

Kulwicki also went on to win the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in '92 over Bill Elliot. Also, for point of reference, Alan Kulwicki originally had another sponsor signing with Maxwell House coffee for the '91 season. But nefarious car-owner Junior Johnson took the Maxwell House sponsor from under him, after Alan refused to sign with Junior on two separate occasions. Junior also opened another team with the Maxwell House sponsor, the 22 team. The driver of the 22 btw was Sterling Marlin, who performed consistently well in both '91 & '92 despite not winning any Cup races until 1994.

The Williams merry-go-round of drivers in the mid-2000s was extraordinary. They’d already signed up Webber for 05, and when Button didn’t go to Williams, Frank wanted Pizzonia but BMW insisted on a German, so he got Heidfeld. Then when BMW left, they took Heidfeld with them, so Frank brought in Nico Rosberg. Webber then went back to Milton Keynes, so they had Alex Wurz, but then after he got trounced by Rosberg he upped sticks and left, so engine partners Toyota plonked Nakajima in the car. Rosberg was a saving grace for Williams because he (very quietly) put in some great drives 2007-09, without which they’d have been nowhere. Then they ended up changing drivers every season until 2015.

oddly Williams have the ability to have very best of drivers and worst drivers in a car at the same time. apart from a few years when they manage to get two rubbish drivers in but that takes real skill (pastor and Bruno come to mind)

Someone needs to tell Jenson that "mate, go on, tell us everything. We need to know this kind of thing. If someone falls asleep that's their problem." Yeah given ITVs obsession with his contract details (covered as always by Louise Goodman), I more or less agreed with Flavio at the time. I think it was an interview in F1 Racing where he outlined his flaws as a driver that I had a change of mind on him. Anyone that can be that brutally honest about himself is serious about what he does. It sounds stupid of me but this was the start of ITV becoming really nauseating in their coverage and I just hated whoever they fixated on.

This is very similar to what happened with another British driver Dario Franchitti back in 2008/2009 across not only two different teams but two different series in NASCAR & Indycar. Dario had decided after the 2007 Indycar season (where he won both the Indy 500 & the title) that he would take a break from Indycar & try his hand in NASCAR full time. He had already entered some Xfinity Series (NASCAR's second tier series) & ARCA races in 2007 on Indycar's off weekends to gain experience in racing stock cars & had signed a contract with Chip Ganassi to race for him in the Cup Series. However despite this, Dario was also still under contract with Andretti in Indycar even though he was taking a break from the series. This would cause a major controversy when Dario decided to rejoin Indycar for the 2009 season (after an awful stint in NASCAR where he broke his leg at Talladega) with Ganassi instead of Andretti & Andretti immediately accused Ganassi of contract tampering because they added a provision in Dario's NASCAR contract that stated that if NASCAR didn't work out for Dario, he could drive for Ganassi's Indycar team. It got so messy that Indycar had to step in & basically ruled that because Dario had taken 2008 off, it voided the contract he had with Andretti & he could sign with any team for 2009.

I guess the advantage to the bots is that it's probably going to be counted as "engagement" by the algorithm. Just ignore them, folks (unless Aidan wants a sh*t load of complaints from us to someone?) I remember there being the mix-up (I'll keep it legal) with JB's contracts. I also remember feeling lousy for him being stuck at BAR. I seem to remember Frank having a lousy reputation when it came to contracts. JB wasn't the first to be shafted. Still, it eventually worked out, as you said. I recall other drivers, including Lewis, not being surprised by him being "good enough" (press talk rather than drivers) to win the championship because he'd looked up to JB when they were karting. Apparently Jensen was better than Lewis and pretty much everyone else - according to the latter named. I am in no position to argue with him! As ever, top job, Aidan. Hope the reactions calm down soon. If the books are musty, even a bit (and it only really works on a bit IIRC) mouldy, put each one in its own bag, seal it thoroughly and freeze it. I'm talking a few days at least (trying to dig up my memories of 30+ years ago when I used to fix books in a town library). I am sure I heard that will kill off many moulds, and should kill off the little book mites that eat paper and leave books really dusty. That's probably the main outcome from doing it. Then get someone to give the books a shake out before they defrost!

Regarding the contract in a pub thing. I swear also there was one back in the 1960s. Maybe it was Graham Hill's once, but I similarly can't recall and can't be arsed to check. But you may also be thinking of Joy Division's famous one where they played around with Tony Wilson and got him to sign it in blood because he would famously go on about there being no need of contracts because you can leave at any point if you're dissatisfied. Joy Division didn't believe him so asked him to put that in writing and in blood.

"Frank" didn't really pluck JB from F3 at all - it was Alain Prost. Serge Saulnier was Button's team boss at Promatecme in British F3, and highly (insistently!) recommended Prost give Button a test, seeing how he was competing in a knowingly underpowered Dallara Renault and comprehensively outperforming his teammate British FRenault champion Aluizio Coelho, despite stepping direct from FFord vs FRenault. After having tested Button; but not being able to offer Jenson a seat owing to needing to take sponsored drivers, Prost then spoke to Williams and highly recommended Button again when the Zanardi situation unfolded after the end of the 1999 season - so Williams agreed to give him a seat in the 'shootout' - (in January 2000!) between Button and Bruno Junqueira to assess who would be best to replace Zanardi for 1-season, pending Montoya to be free, having taken up his 2001 option from Ganassi.
