This shooting reminds me of a Stephen King book, The Dead Zone. This man goes into a coma, and when he wakes up, he starts having visions. He eventually has a vision of a politician rising to power. The man didn't want to shoot a child, so he was killed before he could complete what he thought his mission was. Instead, the fact he tried to use a child angered his followers, and so his reputation was ruined. The book was released in 1979, before people come for King.
