I don’t blame him for grabbing her that way, but at the same time, physical injury isn’t the only concern. What’s easier to heal in an animal? Physical injury or emotional trauma? You should avoid traumatizing them at all costs because they may never heal from that.

A thought I've had when we see Eldad or Loretta getting bitten: I'm sure he and Loretta have had tetanus boosters... but I wonder if they also get rabies preexposure immunization and follow-up titers. Every State has different rules regarding animal bites. In NM where I live, it's more primitive, it's still mandatory if you can't find the dog's medical records, that the animal has to be sacrificed for rabies testing (.and if it's a wild animal, no choice at all about what has to be done)... there's no choice of quarantine, here it costs the animal its life. I would suspect that California would be more progressive, but I don't know. The post-exposure shots aren't as painful as they used to be, and there's less reaction to them now because of how they're made, but they still are expensive and can still cause a local reaction in some people. That's another reason microchipping is important, in my opinion: It just to find the owners, but it can tell them if the dog's immunizations are up-to-date and save the dog's life, as well as the expense of the human rabies and rabies immunoglobulin shots (RIG). People who interface with dogs as much as they do, are in a high-risk category just like zookeepers, animal control officers and some wildlife rehabilitators. We don't see everything on these videos. I wonder if they carry first aid with them so they can at least immediately clean the wound with Betadine, just in case. Not just viruses, but even just the normal flora in a dog's mouth, plus any organisms they pick up while homeless. Cats in particular can potentially carry the diseases of every wild animal that they've had in their mouths, like a vector.

I love seeing lost and abandoned dogs end up in good situations. It is one of the most beautiful things there is.

diary of a 12 year old princess honestly I think that crying was mainly fear because my dog got stuck between the post on the table (two posts came together to make one post) and it wasn't pushed, once we calmed him down he wasn't even wining and he was still stuck.
