The gladius was always intended to be a stabbing weapon not a slicing weapon. Strike with the sheild then stab into the opening. An excellently designed weapon.

Amazing more people didn't pick up on the concept of simply stabbing your opponent in the stomach instead of sword fighting and slashing. Romans were brutally practical.

I think they screwed up on the handle. The gladius is a one-handed sword, which is supposed to have a handle that's just long enough to squeeze your hand onto. That way the your hand can't slip up or down the handle.

I wonder why they call it a "gladius"? Its far more similar to a Qama or a Kindjal. Though some have suggested that they evolved from the gladius. Though theres no direct evidence to suggest such other than just relative similarity in shape. Its still effing cool though.

After watching a video on the Condor Bowie knife I bought that it is carbon steel and amazing I chopped through literally logs like no problem the thing is amazing definitely buy that when I got it I got it on Amazon under $100 but nowadays cuz of inflation I'm not sure also Condor does make a Viking sword and ask some interested into all our carbon steel and I'm considering using my employee knife and pretty much everything when I go Outdoors which I have been using so it says to boil it down after every other use or so so I use mineral oil which is pretty much a different form of baby oil but mineral oil it's made for digestion and is good for carbon steel because let's say you go out and you cut a fish or something you can still use your knife to eat off of if necessary

One thing about swords is that, if well made, they are the most capable combat tools you can find that doesn't shoot a projectile. May sound evident but many people sort of think that a machete, a chopper knife or a novelty tool can be as good as a well designed model of a sword and no. They sure can be used for defense (hell a crow bar can be excellent an tool for self defense if you want), but nothing really beats a good ol' well made sword, especially if you have good technique and edge alignment.
