Holy Moly Jimmy😱. Seriously cannot believe they tapped you for that minor, minor, minor thing. They seriously need to review their letter writing skills to give you information on a breach. The way you read that out would lead anyone to believe you were not a safety conscious person. In this instance I think THEY were hypoxic. Keep up the great work. Love your videos. Best wishes from Dublin, Ireland..☘☘☘ Glad the gear problem was resolved👍👍.

Deja vu all over again! In 1981 I was stationed in Okinawa Japan with an OV-10 squadron. I had just dropped repair parts in Southern Korea and was headed for Osan AB near Seoul. When I put the gear down I got nose wheel down and locked with both mains barberpoled. Being able to see the gear from the cockpit I looked and sure enough they both hung limp about half way down. Cycled them with same results. ( Did I mention it was a dark and stormy night?) Remembering some systems knowledge, I pushed the nose wheel steering button to turn on the hydraulic pump. Both mainstream popped down and locked. Troubleshooting afterward we found that the microswitches were out of adjustment. Same switches that Jimmy has! great video by the way.

I drive a 38 seater coach which does not have a toilet onboard, Kinda sucks when you have the call of nature. So the solution to prevent spillage, I use a plastic fabric conditioner bottle. Say a size litre bottle, (when the coach is empty pf passengers, and I'm parked) It's saved me many times. Worth remembering next time you fly a longer distance. Great job by the way Jimmy landing safely, and beating the commercial flight.

Last time I said "clear prop" was a few months ago in an Aeronca 7EC Champ as part of a biennial flight review. This was after not having flown for about 25 years. I already went broke with airplanes a long time ago (and then I married my second, now ex, wife). As for the water bottle, Orange juice comes in bottles much better suited to being repurposed.

Jimmy, we built a lancair legacy with a Vortech Supercharger. It said "for race only, not for street use". We used it as a normalizer. Closing the waste gate as we climbed we could have sea level manifold pressure at 18,000 feet. Trued out always above 286kts. 320 plus mph. No drawbacks. IO550N13.

@@mikeratcliff1446 First suggestion - - find a flying club near you. Learning to fly with a flying club and their associated CFIs should be substantially cheaper than a flight school. My PPL is working out to almost the cost of two undergrad classes at the local university. I also would suggest finding a CFI "with gray hair", as in someone experienced who isn't just trying to get to the airlines. There's a wealth of knowledge in those older pilots gained through experience that the young pilots simply haven't reached. The old ones also aren't likely to drag out your training to pad the bill as some of the younger ones (and some flight schools) like to do. Likewise, try to find the smallest, cheapest airplane to rent for your training. Sure, a brand new Cirrus SR22 with glass cockpit is sexy, but does no good for a student pilot. Nothing wrong with "steam gauges" - - they've been the standard for 80+ years and are still found in older 737s and other transport-category aircraft still flying in the skies today. Obviously you want a safe, well-maintained aircraft to train in, but nothing wrong with 40+ year old airplanes if maintained. Do ground school on your own. Fly8MA on KZfaq has a free online ground school which they offer. Start this immediately before even bothering to get into a plane. The more you can teach yourself, the less time you'll be paying the CFI and airplane rental fees. Do buy a handheld 2-way aviation radio. The cheapest ones will serve you fine. The fancy features are not needed. I listen to the tower while pre-flighting the aircraft to get a feel for the traffic flow and weather. I tune into the ATIS (automated weather and airport info) and call for my clearances on it, all before starting the engine. Most airplane rentals are based on engine-on hours, either Tachometer hours or Hobbs (clock) hours. The handheld radio will shave 10 or so minutes off your engine run time *each* flight, perhaps more. If your rental rate is $100/hr, that's $16 saved per flight. Last one: Foreflight (GPS and charts for the iPad) is fantastic and ultimately saves money if you're needing to update your charts often. Buy a used iPad which has a cell modem built into it - - you won't use the cell phone part BUT that cell modem has a GPS receiver built-in, even if you never activate the cell portion. Used being the key word here. Nothing wrong with 1-2 generations' prior iPads for this purpose. The iPad Mini fits best in smaller planes. I used Swappa to find and buy mine. Above all, have fun with it! Aviation really is a neat community and it's been the most fun I've had in decades.

@@mikeratcliff1446 I was 64 when I took my check ride, you can do it for sure! I even got 5 interested pilots to start a flying club and found a used 172 cheap, bought it and got it air worthy for cheap. That was after 2 months flight training. # Clear Prop...Jimmy, when I was contributing my boat to the USCG AUX here in Oceanside CA., as skipper of the boat, I always yelled Clear Prop as I turned the ignition switch on its Chevy 360 engine. The first time I did this, quite by habit (former flight instructor), the rest of the crew looked at me as if I came out of an operating room not being completely stitched up. I did this on every CG AUX and pleasure boating event. Those who knew me laughed, others wore a wrinkled brow and jaundiced eye.

Jimmy, Jim here, A word of advice from an x truck driver who hated to stop for anything. When you get a bottles beverage go for the larger holed bottles. and the biggest bit of advice I can give you is NEVER EVER DRINK FROM THE SAME TYPE BOTTLE YOU ARE PEEING IN. I used to do the 1 gallon Arizona sweet tea, I drank from them and refilled them. One night, I was pretty tired and some wang pulled right out in front of me, I hit the brakes and threw some stuff around in the sleeper and was quite the wake up call. Being wide awake it was tea time. Up went the bottle, me looking forwards to the nice sweet tea to keep me energized for a bit and i get a big ole mouth full and instantly realized someone had stolen the sugar from it...... Then the smell of the contents of that tea jug hit my nose. I reinserted the "recycled, unsweet tea" into the bottle and proceeded to find the right one to get a rinse and never ever used the same bottle for tea in as I did tea out..... So let my almost disaster be a lesson. First, use bottles with larger openings for long trips, so you can recycle. Never use the same type of bottle for tea in, as you use for tea out. And NEVER drink only water when you might be needing to use your jugs for water out because while tea in has a sweet flavor, both water and tea (or water) out does not. Had I been only drinking water I would have likely swallowed because again, tea (or water) out has no flavor, and if you miss the smell, taste is all you have, and if all you have is water to drink...... You are going to swallow before you realize what just happened, and I wonder how well you can fly when retching up your water out that had swapped places with your water in during that rough turbulence......

Wow, that's really scary that switch is identical to switch's I've seen on laundry appliances. Which I've tested with wire's disconnected and using a continuity meter , you hear the click but while the meter is connected don't get the continuity tone from the meter . I would replace all of them on the landing gear and possibly install a camera with blutooth so I'd know wether my gear was down or not.

Nothing to be scared of. That type of limit switch is extremely reliable. In this case, it was the mounting that was problematic, not the switch.

My old rule was, "under 500 miles a light plane will always win gate to gate". The delay at the gate, taxi, and then more delays after landing will make the light plane faster.

Had similar experience in my Piper Arrow but it was the nose wheel light that didn't appear, switched other landing gear bulbs to no effect (and higher anxiety), and even after abrupt maneuvering, ATC binocular inspection on fly-by couldn't confirm the slightly forward locked down position, etc. I did pull the mixture and prop back, switched off the mags just before touch down and the engine died just before the front wheel came down and held. Met by fire trucks etc. Definitely big pucker factor for these situations. Cause was the nose gear micro-switch signal wire failure! BUT you never know. Glad your situation worked out!! Love your channel.

Jimmy, love what you do! Question, do you have a leaking fuel cap in your RH wing? At 18:53 and again at 19:38 you can see short bursts of vapour trailing from your RH wing. At 19:38 it seems to be in the outboard region of your aileron (in line with your fuel cap)? Sorry if it’s nothing but it caught my attention both times. Fly safe and keep up the good work sir!
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper 2 жыл бұрын
It's fairly common for a fuel cap to seep a little bit when they're completely topped off. Avgas is hard on seals and dries them out, and they have to seal against the filler neck that usually has dings and scratches from fuel nozzles, so it's rather difficult to keep them fully sealed. The lower pressure on top of the wing combined with venturi effect along the interface of the cap and filler neck will suck that fuel right out of an imperfect seal. Some aircraft will lose fuel out of the vents too, you'll see a trail coming out from under the wing if you get a little uncoordinated. Nothing to be worried about unless it doesn't stop after you've burned a little fuel out, as it's not really that much fuel you're losing...it just looks like a whole lot from the pilot's seat LOL

The instructor that taught my friend to fly in the late 70s taught him to open the window and yell "clear prop or prepare to chop". Not sure if you had that anywhere else, but still makes me chuckle. I was never outside the aircraft when he started it, no never feared the chop.
