I did say it was tender and juicy in the beginning, but as we kept eating, the steak continued to cook further and it got kind of tough. How was your experience at Gaslamp if you've ever been?

Horrible!! Went for my birthday 2 years ago and early seating as well.. smelled like stale vomit and dark!! Had the tomahawk steak and the beef wellington. Overpriced!! Mediocre food! Couldn't see the whole time!! Never! Again! Cool concept! Horrible execution!!

My husband and I went there for our anniversary and ordered the French Laundry as well. We had the same reaction that it was an interesting experience but definitely not worth the cost.. Thank you for your honesty. Enjoy your channel and really appreciate your recommendations.

You've helped alot of people to bypass and not waste their money on the Tomahawk steak. The drink was served in a skull cup...kind of wierd for a supposedly fancy restaurant. Glad you liked the oyster and scallops. Always nice to see Terrence in your videos.

Yes it had this weird dark vibe. Strange and I wouldn't think it would be somewhere I'd like to celebrate something or think it was romantic in anyway.

Thank you for posting your honest opinion. I had a similar overcooked meat experience there 2 months ago to celebrate my mom’s birthday. Not every meal adventure can a positive one.

Enjoyed this video. Big fine dining fan here, and I agree with Terrence--I prefer medium rare. At those prices, I would have returned the steak--definitely didn't look even medium.

Nice presentation at least. I don’t like to return my food but I would def have told the manager and gotten a refund for the steak. Or just never go there again. Thanks for all the reviews!

That’s a Sin for a Wagyu Tomahawk Steak to be overcooked like that. And that probably cost you a Mortgage Payment as well. Sorry but that’s unacceptable

Wow! $500! You know, I agree that sometimes you gotta splurge for a happy occasion, but if I'm paying that much, the amount of food has to be relative. There are some fancy expensive places I call "big plate, small food" restaurants like Roy's where what little food you get IS good, but not really worth the price. You pay for the beautiful plating and ambience. I don't mind $80 buffets if you can eat your fill of crab legs and lobster tails. Just think though, you could have purchased all the ingredients for that $500 meal probably for less than $100. Cook your own!

Yes but I cook everyday and if it's great I don't mind paying if there's someone to split the cost. But for these videos it's not all a loss. You get the review, I get to eat, and in the end the receipts go to taxes. Everyone wins.

Yeah, not worth the coin. Seems like there are a few restaurants locally trying to capture the mainland steakhouse menu. I've been to Gallagher's (2023) and Luger's (2022) in New York and they both don't come near that price point for an excellent steak. Gallagher's, I'm especially fond of. Superb dry-aged beef. And they get the doneness on point.

Wolfgangs here was also meh. We went a while ago before I even filmed videos. The waiver couldn't remember anything we ordered and kept asking us. I'd rather you write it down that try to impress us with your bad memory. The steak was blegh and all our food came out at very different times where our friend didn't have his food until all of us were done eating.

You and yr friend are too nice. I would have sent the steak back to the kitchen. It was well overcooked and bleeding onto the plate b/c it was not rested properly before cutting. At $500 for the meal, you should have yr steak prepared exactly as requested and the sauce should not be reeking of alcohol. Sorry yr meal was not perfect.

No worries. I don't send food back. First impressions are everything and we've had suspicious things done when sent back so I don't trust anyone when food is sent back.

To pay over $500 and have your steak absolutely overcooked like that, I would have returned it for sure. That steak was UGLY!

My friend was weedwacking his lawn and this guy demanded to see the owner and he said I am the owner. The guy didn't believe him. I guess if you don't look the part you're not allowed to own a house? He didn't vote for him 🤣

Aiya, bummers the meal didn't deliver but you still both gave really balanced and fair feedback 👍. Gotta agree with T that steaks are best medium rare and that we all deserve to treat ourselves and others after scrimping and saving all the time. But hey, make the room darker, drink more booze and everything looks better....sounds like my strategy for "looking good" on a date night since i don't like to dress up either. Pitch dark, 3 drinks in...garans i going look stunning 🤣!

For me, personally, dropping >$50-$60+ for meal is Expensive enough! But $500, & not getting your food served right, is the apex of food insults! Hope that you/Terrence can find an eatery w/better dollar value menu. IMO...Signature Prime, Buzz's, Hy's & Haleiwa Joe's would've made for enjoyable ambiance

Misty, we love your camera work on this video. But we agree, burnt steak is just such a disappointment! We just had a whiskey-marinated steak in Omaha, and it was actually good. But it would have been horrible if it had been in a bourbon sauce. Better to appreciate simpler, quality foods (for less money. 😉)

Thanks Steve! I've made a bourbon short rib stew before and it was tasty. Also had a Jack Daniel's steak sauce. For this sauce they definitely didn't cook down the alcohol content. But yes expensive is not always good.

Watching the video now. From the comments, it sounds like someone needs to take some additional traini g on how to cook a steak. Kailua? Made me think of the restaurant, Casablanca. Have you been there before? Maybe you can review it? I really liked it the few times Ive been there, but its been awhile. Hahaha, you were standing across the street from Casablanca at the end of the video.

Wow, unlucky. I had the laundry cooked correctly. My only complaint was the yacht had previously frozen ahi in the poke. TBH Gaslamp IS good, but not worth the price of admission. At the yachts price I'd expect FRESH fish not previously frozen...

Great video review. You could tell that steak wasn't tender just by the waiter sawing away at it to cut. Or that knife wasn't very sharp which is indicative of other issues, a steak knife at that price point should slice through any meat preparation like a hot knife thru butter. Just my opinion.

When the steak is over 80% done, you got a well done steak. Disappointing. I would have liked for you to address it with them and see how they would have handled the situation. You're paying for quality after all. Also, I would like to subscribe to Terrence's channel, can you please give me a link?

I dont send food back. There's a chance they will do something to it and we tested it out last time. Plus for that money first impressions are everything and they've been there for years. If they were new and working out the bugs I'd understand. Terrance doesn't have a KZfaq channel. He just dines out with me when we find restaurants we want to try.
