Wish there would have been more Follies at the concert! And more Company! And some Assassins! Not to mention a nod to Pacific Overtures and of course the fantastic Passion! Maybe a quick little passing Road Show as well!

A wee bit of Saturday Night and Evening Primrose wouldn't hurt either...

IT's only a two hour show.

@bassman, that's the beauty, that's the pain. Too many treasures even to name!

Excellent, I did notice though the brass players seem to play the swung rhythms very square...I wasn’t even expecting that. A bit strange! Tempo was bit slow at first. Strings are beautiful.

This is a classical orchestra so they're more used to playing Beethoven.

What happened to the "days" iconic echo?

I am not sure that it would have been ground breaking. Quite a few shows historically have had overtures with music that was not from the show. Most Gilbert and Sullivan shows have overtures with no music from any of the songs in them. Maybe Follies was the first show many several years to do this, but it certainly would not have been the first.

I think the "overture" you mean is actually the prologue. It takes place before the overture. It starts with a little bit of Timpani followed by 2 huge chords by the Brass ;) Do I mean the right thing?

Great orchestra, but some of the tempos seemed slightly "off" to me. Probably just SO used to Gemignani's conducting and tempi. The drums are overmiked at times, but otherwise the clarity of the orchestration is terrific!

I'm pretty sure the Prologue IS the actual Overture. When I saw it on Broadway with Bernadette Peters it started with that, not this.

No, this is the overture.

@@Broadwaybuff-pi1qg In that case, sometimes the show is performed without this.

I love these Proms videos, however I do notice the English Brass players tend to lack something in the character of their playing in jazzy American pieces. You can hear it here and in the trumpet solo section in the Gypsy overture.
