This is my all time favorite TOOL song ! Maynard is hauntingly beautiful in this Followed by reflection ..and then decending... I hope you like it...in my opinion she is spot on ..you all day everyday battle with the alleged angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other battling for your attention ..and to cull out the herd is to let one side or the other to win ..in my opinion

Adam Jones' guitar playing in songs like this, and wings are often so overlooked for how beautifully they are constructed. These 2 songs particularly are the songs i point to to show just how good he really is
@bernhtp7 ай бұрын
Adam is not only the key founder of Tool, but also largely responsible for the unique sound. Paul D'amore's lead-bass sound (embraced by Justin) and Danny's musicianship obviously are a large component along with Maynard's lyrics/voice, but Adam is way overlooked. While Adam doesn't shred, he uses every other guitar technique - octaves, harmonics, tremolo picking, power chord riffs, octave bends, hammering/pulling, and so much more - to create a soundscape that generates/enhances a particular mood brilliantly. His guitar tones range from the extremely dark and rolled off (e.g., the cover of No Quarter) to the super screechy and crunchy. So underrated.

My thoughts on this song went to social media and our relationship with it. Its can be an echo chamber and we scroll through making snap judgments about people without any real evidence. We have these imaginary conversations with people we never see or meet and that is nearly indistinguishable from psychopathy. Emotional detachment, narcissism, lack of empathy are all prevalent when we interact with strangers on social media.

Another great reaction, thanks you two. There's plenty of great music to cover from A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and other bands that Maynard has sang with, plus Tool live. I'd suggest mixing it up with other bands as well. I think you'll love Unleash the Archers, as well as many others that will be recommended. Have fun and stay safe.

@@psycho416s sigh. You said it has a "7" simply because it was the seventh song on the "ALBUM", which a lot of was written in 7(not every single section obviously) which sorta became the album's theme. Deftones have a song called "Tempest". That's why they put the 7 on it.

Pink Floyd would be a next good journey. A lot of people feel Tool is a modern version of Pink Floyd. If you decide to go in that direction I would recommend starting with Dark Side of the Moon. A lot of the albums before this are more experimental and very different.

This songs about the state of social media, "cancel culture" and the effects its having on our society. Judge condemn and banish any and everyone. Definition of psycopathy: Psychopathy, sometimes considered synonymous with sociopathy, is traditionally a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, and egotistical traits. All traits one who would participate in bad social media behavior would have. Also Maynard was caught up in some of this "cancel culture" when he was falsely accused of sexual assault and fighting the online attacks he endured because of the claims by those who tried to cancel him.

My understanding for Culling Voices was very personal: the psychopathy that we have within ourselves... like: how many parts of me I killed before to become who I am right now? This murder of our own conscience to fit something could be considered a psychopathy? In this internet/social media we are always trying to fit something and giving up of our beliefs
