Shannon, a native of Hazel Green KY, grew up with a profound love for music, showcasing his vocal and instrumental talents throughout his life. Shannon’s sense of duty to his country led him to join the United States Navy in 1994 after the events of Desert Storm. After undergoing training as a Fleet Marine Force Hospital Corpsman at the Naval School of Health Sciences in San Diego and Field Medical Service School at Camp Pendleton CA, Shannon served in two combat deployments in Iraq - first in 2003 with 2nd Battalion 1st Marines as part of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and again in 2004 during Operation Vigilant Resolve as the Regimental Combat Team 1 Personal Security Detachments Corpsman. In this time, it was during periods of downtime when Shannon would play guitar and play and sing to help relieve the stresses of combat and deployment felt by both him and others in his unit.
After serving in the military for 17 years, Book retired as a Petty Officer First Class due to PTSD and TBI. He continued his passion for music by performing at various sporting and veteran events across the United States, including singing the National Anthem and other patriotic songs. Shannon was a member of the band Vetted, had experienced the thrill of performing live in front of 60-thousand people at the 2016 Invictus Games, has recorded number originals including several he’ll be performing this evening, and is currently gigging with his band, Deliberately Broken.
