Pearl Jam's "Glorified G" was inspired by a conversation the band had about guns after drummer Dave Abbruzzese bought two for a hunting trip. Dave is from Texas, and he and Eddie Vedder have very different views on the subject. In his Songfacts interview, he tells his side of the story.

@@E.C.2 Basically, I think the issue is that Edd was given more control after Ten, and it should have been a democratic system. Mike should have a heavy hand in things, he is such a force in the band. I like the punk influence but not if it is at the expense of Mikes classic hard rock sound. Edd is also the bands connection to the dirtbags making the band be influencers, that is where the agendas are coming from. Dave A was his own man and had to go by their logic.

I love Pearl Jam before, during and after Dave A. Vs is probably my fav album of theirs and Dave A my fav drummer of theirs. The band can get too woke at times (Gigaton...) and how Eddie treated Dave was bad. Eddie is right about a lot of things too though and the song turned out awesome, the backstory is kinda sad though. Obviously, woke people are also right about some things but they should recognize their biases and try to not treat people the way Eddie and Jeff treated Dave. Anyway, I still love PJ and wish Dave A the best. Hope he gets the apology he deserves.

I've seen it myself in some of their live shows on you tube. Rick has said he wishes he had charged him with assault. Says he has thrown wine bottles at him other crazy shit. But like I said I've seen enough myself to know Rick is telling the truth about Eddie. He even calls him the tiny terror. He does speak highly of Mike and Stone. Says they are nice guys. But says Jeff is an asshole which doesn't surprise me. He toured with the band every tour all those years and every thing in between so I can imagine he would know better than anyone what these guys are really like.

PJ's first three albums were their peak if you go by sales numbers. Ten 15.7M, VS 8.2m, Vitalogy 6.1m, the rest are below 2m. Imo, VS was PJ's high water mark. The follow up for any band's debut that breaks out like theirs did is always tough. VS nailed it. Even Rolling Stone said that VS topped their debut. Dave gave PJ a more hard rock sound which I preferred. Would PJ's sales have declined as much had they not fired Dave for liking their recording facility for VS and for buying a gun or other personality conflicts? We'll never know.

They could have put two songs from the lost dogs that were cut from the first two albums instead.
