Unconfirmed reports suggest that Chelsea's number one target to replace Emma Hayes has been tied down. Lyon's Sonia Bompastor has been rumoured for a number of months but after it was believed a deal was agreed things went quiet. New reports today suggest she will be boss at the Bridge come the summer. Also, flowers for Rachel Daly who hung up her international duty shirt yesterday! A bit of a shock, but does serving as fullback when you're one of the best strikers make it an easier decision? Let's discuss x

I wonder if not playing up front for the Lionesses has made Rachel Daly's retirement from England a little easier to make? And if Emma Hayes CAN'T... Is Sonia Bompastor the perfect person to bring a champions league trophy to Chelsea?

Sonia Bompastor is a great replacement for EA and could win the Champions League. As for Rachel Daly retiring, there is never a good time. Us 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 would love to bring Kimmy Little out of retirement. ( We so miss her ) Great chat Shebahn 😁

Shebahn Rachel Daly retiring from England is inevitable as she has run her course especially with Russo in pole position. Russo requires the correct players around her to feed off as an out and out striker. I say more games for Grace Clinton playing alongside Russo with Toone behind. I also think Mead will be retiring next year from England as she needs to concentrate on Arsenal. Rachel Daly playing alongside Russo at Arsenal would work and would present a formidable attacking force for Arsenal. I would also recommend Arsenal buy Toone if they want to guarantee WSL titles . p.s brilliant presentation / you gorgeous person 😊

You have hit the nail on the head re Rachel Daly. I reckon She went to Sarina and said what are my chances of a starting role in the future instead of being a substitute all the time and Sarina said none. So she decided to go

It sounds exactly like that, which is disappointing given the value senior players add to not only the bench but as part of the squad. Jill Scott is a case in point of how to do it.

@davewright8206 A "Lioness" (higher case) is a player who plays for England. It's to do with the England badge imagery. Shirt worn ~ box ticked. Rachel Daly is one of those who transcends that though; one who warrants: "Now THAT is a lioness".

Hello Shebahn. I commented when only English potential managers for Chelsea were in the headlines that I thought they might go after tge Paris FC manager. I got the country right. Rachel is a particular favourite of mine, being from Yorkshire. Sad to hear the news. She did talk abiut getting married. Perhaps she wants to concentrate on her personal life? Mind you, if I were Manchester United manager, I would be after her to play next season to fill the position left by Alessia Russo, not that the other forwards are not good, but United seem to lack someone who can drag a team forward, like Rachel did often at Houston Dash.

Think you are totally correct about Rachel Daly.. I was very surprised at first…but then Could understand why…putting on as substitute at 80+minutes, was more or less insulting?…She is an out and out striker and so determined and aggressive to win… have always thought so.. anyway her record here and in the USA proves that!!!….And she is better than Russo too… who is not ruthless enough or decisive enough in front of goal….(my opinion for a while). I think that other clubs will now try to get her away from Aston v Villa…she would be great at Arsenal ( but probably would not be a fan of the manager??)…others will be interested too, no doubt. Am really sad she won’t be playing internationally now….Kim Little did the same… another totally brilliant player… who continues to be Captain Courageous at Arsenal…👍👍 Hope she goes to Chelsea and plays again with bestie Millie .. that would be ideal…Serina is making one or two misjudgments lately, it seems?… but maybe the players, are also suffering with too many fixtures now…and the FA are to blame for not listening to complaints or just not bothered about player welfare..as long as the money rolls in… more women needed in that organisation, for Certain !!!

Daly could really be an asset to a club like Liverpool or any club in development with clear intent. City may lose Hemp and Kelly this summer to bids from outside England. Daly might fit in there. I agree on Russo. She's not clinical enough in front of goal. Daly was imo, the best replacement for Ellen White. Great in the air like White, movement great, volleys and half volleys great also. She was never really given a serious chance in that striker role by Weigman imo but should have been the interim starter while Russo and James continue to develop. I just hope losing her doesn't come back to bite.

First of all football is not a fairytale and no position is anybody’s birthright. She retired cos she wasn’t playing for the batch reason she felt insulted by Russo starting over her and no, Arsenal or Chelsea will not sign her for any fantasy you have in your head. I agree with some of the other things you’ve said

I think not starting in the friendly against Italy put the seeds into her mind. Although friendlies she scored just as many goals as Russo in half the time. It was put off this first round of Euro matches as she wanted to see what would happen. I still maintain the friendly against the US last year they were relieved she played in defence as she would have run them ragged She is quality both in playing and personality.

I won't be surprised if Daly changes club, has a great next season, and comes out of retirement for the Euros next year. I think maybe underneath this decision is disappointment around no longer being a starting player, but she still is someone you would want to have on that bench imo, and there is no less value in being that impact player who brings experience to the squad. Jill Scott did that brilliantly at those memorable Euros. I hope Daly will reconsider over the coming months. Of course, she might just want that time taken up with international breaks for other things now. She is clearly making the decision for her, and she has every right to do that. We all wish her the best of luck with whatever direction she takes of course.

One thing I hope Is she stays at the Villa, however I think a bigger club will come In for her, as she has the ability to lead the line at Man Utd, Chelsea or Man City, but having said that how does she dislodge Sam Kerr, Bunny Shaw and so on. who knows maybe Lyon, Bayern, Barcelona shes world-class she can go anywhere

Sonia Bompastor is one of the best of the best! I think she'll be excellent for Chelsea. Her coaching style added to the WSL will only make the league stronger. I was so sorry to hear of Rachel Daly's retirement from international football, but I completely understand and respect her decision. I do think she's been hugely underrated in her England role. I have all respect for Sarina Wiegman as England manager, but I do think she made a huge mistake in not putting Rachel out front and centre as Lionesses' striker - full stop! I wouldn't take anything away from Alessia Russo's (or anyone else's) ability in that role, but I do think the absolute best choice, at least for a part of each match, would've been to have Rachel out front. I will miss Rachel Daly's presence for England greatly. Regarding her future, I do think she could probably write her own ticket to just about anywhere. Wherever she goes, long may she continue to 'wow' the world of women's football. She's a legend. Cheers!

I look at Russo and think that Arsenal must thank their lucky stars that they didn't pay a fortune to get her early from Man Utd - not what was promised by the Euros. I look at Daly and think that Aston Villa couldn't believe their luck when she chose them off the back of the Euros. A sad loss to the Lionesses

After the world cup ended you could tell that Sarina was moving away from Rachel Daly. I am shocked that Rachel has stepped away from international duty, but I feel like this move will extend her club career. Rachel's contribution to the Lionesses has been immense. She will definitely be missed by the squad on and off the pitch....

Arsenal have too many forwards as it is, even if they are all pretty similar. Man Utd though could really use Daly. Liverpool might put in a bid and Man City are likely to lose Hemp to Barca in the summer so they might fancy a shot. Daly definitely has options. She is too good of a player.

I'm surprised sonia chose to come to chelsea. She's Lyon through and through. I honestly thought it was desperate for chelsea to try and get her, but money talks. Chelsea will be staying on top of the league for years to come. As for Daly I think she saw that her being a sub and playing LB wasn't worth it anymore.

Attempt to list out England's top 5 performances since the Euros Final. The post Euros fuzzy glow has masked a pretty dire period in which England's best players, in stellar club form and Ballon D'Or listed, have had to dig out results, clinging on by their finger nails. Emma Hayes was co-commentary on some of the matches played in the run-up to the Euros and then in the Nations League. In both phases, she very diplomatically red flagged how teams would set-up to exploit England's vulnerabilities. Whereas Emma Hayes has been known to make first half substitutions when things aren't working ~ Sarina has resolutely stuck to her guns despite opposition teams having 'sussed' England out. In that setting, she hung Toone, Stanway & Russo & the backline out to dry ~ and the England keeper became England's best known player. Rachel Daly has effectively resigned because the situation is untenable. She's seemingly been reduced to a sharp shooting training partner for her fellow top 10 Ballon D'Or listed teamate, Mary Earps. There can be no Wendie Renard style player rebellion (seeing in the return of Le Sommer and Henry) because in contrast to the French Football Federation, the FA have invested heavily in the Lionesses. So, we lose Rachel Daly (see @davewright8206 post) when Euros qualification is at jeopody...but still get to see the brilliance of her elders Le Sommer, Popp and Hermoso.

Excellent comments on Rachel Daly, and on the lionesses performances since the Euros…and even now struggling to qualify for the next Euros!!….mistakes are being made !!!..and ‘some’ players not living up to expectations and ‘hype’…They will regret not having Daly in the team… and so will the fans 🤬🤬….but she had had enough!!… Aston Villa manager … called her the best no 9 in the country…. Being wasted as sub from the bench!!!….Correct … but very sad …..(hope Prince William gives her an O.B.E …he rates her too 👍)…

Your justification for hanging on to the old guard is flawed! The 2023 Euro’s is history…Any good coach, (which you aren’t) knows it’s onwards and upwards. Sarina Wiegman, as a top coach knows this, and does not adhere to sentimental tripe.
